Chargers Pick Up Sweep of Yellow Jackets on Season's Final Day

SPRINGFIELD, MA – The University of New Haven Chargers traveled to Springfield, MA on Saturday morning to end the team's 2025 regular season campaign. The Blue and Gold swept out the Yellow Jackets on the back on strong pitching, and will now turn its attention to the playoffs.

GAME ONE:
Down on the scoreboard 2-0, A five-run fourth inning propelled the Chargers to the win in game one.

It began with Aedan Ford's three-run home run to center, which brought home Jake Russo (Yaphank, N.Y./Bellport) and Kenny Franquiz. Joe Frazetta's RBI double down the right field line brought home Cam McGugan (Mystic, Conn./Fitch), making it a 4-2 game. Rob Taylor traded places with Frazetta shortly after with a double of his own and stretching the New Haven to 5-2.

Vincent Fusco (Fishkill, N.Y./John Jay East Fishkill) tossed seven huge innings for the Chargers in the game one win. He earned his fourth victory of the season and only surrendered three hits, three walks, and two runs (both earned). He struck out five.

Jafar Vohra (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) slammed the door shut from there, picking up a six-out save, his third of the season.

GAME TWO:
A four-run first for the Chargers gave the Blue and Gold an early lead and Timmy Lewis a big lead to work with.

The scoring began with three bases-loaded walks to Russo, Franquiz, and Tyler Wells (Danville, Vt./St. Johnsbury Academy). With the three-run lead intact, Ford singled home Russo, growing the lead to 4-0.

UNH kept adding on in the second inning, getting a pair of runs on a pair of RBI doubles from Taylor and Franquiz, making it 6-0.

A Cole Maucere (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) solo shot put the Chargers up by a touchdown in the third inning.

The Yellow Jackets got two back on a two-run homer from Nick Serce in the bottom of the inning, cutting the Chargers lead to 7-2.

Russo made the solo trip around the bases after launching a ball over the wall in the top of the fourth, adding onto the New Haven lead.

The day's exclamation point was provided by Matt McIntire (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) who launched a three-run home run in the fifth that brought in EJ Ettinger (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) and Cam McGugan (Mystic, Conn./Fitch), resulting in the 11-2 final.

Lewis went the distance, hurling seven innings of two-run ball. He scattered six hits and a walk while fanning five.
