WEST HAVEN, Conn. – 13 student-athletes were recognized as Academic All-Conference for the spring semester across six different sports in New Haven Athletics.
From women's tennis, Valentina Ferrarini and Risako Umekuni (Saitama, Japan/Shumei Eiko) were named to the Academic All-Conference team. Ferrarini, an International Affairs major, earns the honor for the second consecutive year, while Umekuni, a Hospitality and Tourism major, receives the recognition for the first time.
The men's track program had four athletes selected: Daniel McGrelis, Daniel Barberio (Leland, N.C./Holy Trinity Diocesan), Jaden Sampson (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream South), and Joshua Stewart (Madison, Conn./Hand), each earning the accolade for the first time in their careers.
On the women's track side, Jada Kamtha (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Wolmer's Trust High School for Girls) was also honored, marking her first Academic All-Conference selection.
In women's lacrosse, Gianna Caprioli (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Franklin Delano Roosevelt) and Maddie Sage were both recognized. Caprioli earns the distinction for the second time, having also been selected in 2024. Sage is a first-time honoree.
From baseball, Jafar Vohra (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) and Tyler Wells (Danville, Vt./St. Johnsbury Academy) also earned Academic All-Conference honors. Vohra, a Data Science master's candidate, is recognized in his second year at New Haven after transferring from Columbia. Wells receives the award for the second time in his career, his previous selection coming in 2023.
From softball, Bella Chenet (Plantation, Fla./Archbishop McCarthy) and Olivia Roberto (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun) both earned their first Academic All-Conference selections.
