WEST HAVEN, Conn. – New Haven Women's Basketball announced the hiring of Ariana Koivisto as assistant coach. Koivisto joins Debbie Buff's staff for the program's first season in the NEC.
"Joining the Chargers program is an exciting next step in my coaching journey. I cannot wait to contribute to our team's success and invest in the development of our players on and off the court," said Koivsito.
"I am blessed to have Coach Koivisto become a member of our Charger family. Her experience playing at Southern New Hampshire and coaching at UNC Greensboro will be helpful in our Division I transition this season. She comes highly recommended from colleagues I trust in the profession. Her experience on the operational side will enable me to focus on the development of players and preparing for new and challenging opponents this season in the NEC," said Buff.
Koivisto comes to New Haven following her time as a graduate assistant with the University of North Carolina Greensboro. There, Koivisto specialized in player development, operations, and recruiting. While at UNC Greensboro, she assisted with team workouts, managed social media and video content, collaborated on travel and logistics, and recruiting efforts, while earning a Master of Arts in Applied Arts and Sciences.
A native of Brooklyn, Conn., Koivisto brings deep roots in New England basketball. She served as head coach for the Lady Breakers AAU program since 2020 and was previously an assistant coach at Woodstock Academy.
Koivisto earned her Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Sports Management from Southern New Hampshire University in 2023. She is also a graduate of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's "So You Want To Be A Coach" program.
