West Haven, Conn. –

University of New Haven pitcher Randy Ramnarace (Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood) '26 was selected in the 16th round (488th overall) by the Kansas City Royals in the 2025 MLB Draft. Ramnarace dominated batters throughout the spring, posting a 2.51 ERA across 32.1 IP. Over his 12 appearances, he struck out 45 and only walked 18. His 1.22 WHIP showcased his ability to get hitters out without having much traffic on the basepaths.

Ramnarace is overjoyed to be drafted, as he knows just how low the odds are of getting to the level he has now reached. "There are no words to describe the feeling to get the opportunity to get drafted. It is a truly remarkable feeling and I can't thank God enough for allowing my dream to come true," the 6'1" flamethrower said.

The right-handed reliever was thrilled to be selected by the Royals, saying the organization is "one of the best player development programs in the league, and they develop pitchers very well. I am extremely grateful to be a part of the Kansas City Royals organization."

Throughout the lead up to the draft, players and teams have different meetings and workouts. Ramnarace described the conversations with the Royals organization as "nothing but welcoming. Even before getting drafted, they were very understanding and interested in who I am and what I am as a player."

While getting drafted does not guarantee anything, it is a major milestone in a player's career. Ramnarace reflected on his remarkable achievement by saying, "I would like to thank God for allowing me to reach my dreams and keeping me grounded. I would also like to thank my family, especially my mom and dad. They have sacrificed so much for me to be in the position I am today. I couldn't have done it without them, and I am forever grateful for the time and effort they have put into my success."

New Haven Baseball head coach Chris Celano has overseed Ramnarace's development into one of the best pitchers in the country. Having a player be drafted is a not only a credit to the player, but the program as well. Ramnarace's development from a guy with a big arm as a freshman to a true pitcher in 2025 is indicative of the player buying into the program's process.

"It's been a privilege to coach Randy," said Coach Celano. "His work ethic is second to none. Watching him develop in our program and become a professional prospect has been truly a special experience. The Kansas City Royals got a good pitcher and an even better person."
