FORT WORTH, Texas — New Haven was defeated by No. 18 TCU 20-1 on Sunday at Lupton Stadium. The Chargers (0-6) managed one run on eight hits, while TCU (6-5) scored 20 runs on 11 hits.
New Haven took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when
Shaun Callahan (Newington, Conn./Newington) singled and scored on
Casey Cerruto's (Torrington, Conn./St. Paul Catholic) single to right field. TCU responded in the bottom half with eight runs, highlighted by Kyuss Gargett's two-RBI bunt single and Sawyer Strosnider's three-RBI double, ending the inning with an 8-1 lead.
In the second inning, New Haven's
Mike Christian (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) doubled and
Aedan Forde (Massapequa Park, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) singled, but the inning concluded without scoring. TCU remained scoreless, keeping their 8-1 advantage through two innings.
The fourth inning saw TCU add a run on a passed ball, extending their lead to 9-1. Although Joe Frazzetta singled for New Haven, no runs were added.
