FORT WORTH, Texas — New Haven was defeated by No. 18 TCU 20-1 on Sunday at Lupton Stadium. The Chargers (0-6) managed one run on eight hits, while TCU (6-5) scored 20 runs on 11 hits.

New Haven took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Shaun Callahan (Newington, Conn./Newington) singled and scored on Casey Cerruto's (Torrington, Conn./St. Paul Catholic) single to right field. TCU responded in the bottom half with eight runs, highlighted by Kyuss Gargett's two-RBI bunt single and Sawyer Strosnider's three-RBI double, ending the inning with an 8-1 lead.

In the second inning, New Haven's Mike Christian (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) doubled and Aedan Forde (Massapequa Park, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) singled, but the inning concluded without scoring. TCU remained scoreless, keeping their 8-1 advantage through two innings.

The fourth inning saw TCU add a run on a passed ball, extending their lead to 9-1. Although Joe Frazzetta singled for New Haven, no runs were added.

TCU significantly increased their lead in the fifth inning with 11 runs, featuring key plays such as Preston Gamster's two-RBI double and multiple bases-loaded walks and hit-by-pitches, resulting in a 20-1 lead after five innings.

New Haven's Clark Beattie (Glastonbury, Conn./Xavier) doubled in the sixth inning, but the side was retired without further scoring. Neither team scored in the sixth or seventh innings.

The final score stood at TCU 20, New Haven 1.

New Haven's pitching staff faced difficulties, with Robert Synodi (Hebron, C.T./RHAM) giving up eight runs on three hits and three walks in the fifth inning. Starting pitcher Cole Gibson (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlow) allowed eight runs on two hits and five walks in just 2/3 of an inning. Carson Morgan (Vernon, Conn./Rockville) managed one strikeout in his inning on the mound, despite allowing three runs on four hits. Freshman Maxwell Hilsenroth delivered a notable performance, pitching a season-high 3 1/3 innings without an earned run, allowing only two hits and striking out one.

Casey Cerruto (Torrington, Conn./St. Paul Catholic) contributed with a hit and an RBI in his three plate appearances. Mike Christian (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) doubled and advanced a runner in his three at-bats. Clark Beattie (Glastonbury, Conn./Xavier) provided a pinch-hit double in his only appearance, demonstrating his effectiveness off the bench.
