WEST HAVEN, Conn. — New Haven Baseball (3-16, 3-6 NEC) took two of three at home against Wagner College (9-15, 7-5 NEC) over the weekend.
On Friday, New Haven secured a 9-8 victory in an extra-inning contest, highlighted by
Jaylin Manson's (Newington, Conn./Newington) pivotal role with multiple base hits, contributing to the Chargers' season-high 15 hits. New Haven started strong, posting three runs in the first inning. Manson singled, advanced on a wild pitch, and scored on an error.
Jake Russo (Yaphank, N.Y./Bellport) was hit by a pitch and came home on
Nick Ungania's (Mineola, N.Y./Chaminade) double.
Casey Cerruto (Torrington, Conn./St. Paul Catholic) scored on a sacrifice fly by
Cam McGugan (Mystic, Conn./Fitch), giving the Blue & Gold a 3-1 advantage.
In the third inning, New Haven extended its lead with consecutive singles from Ungania and McGugan, and Michael Christian's single drove in Ungania, pushing the score to 4-3. Trailing in the eighth, New Haven rallied as Manson singled and advanced to third on a wild pitch. A series of walks loaded the bases, and McGugan's single brought in a run, followed by
Joseph Frazzetta's (Howard Beach, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) single that scored two more, reclaiming the lead at 8-7. Wagner leveled the score at 8-8 in the ninth with a sacrifice fly.
In the tenth, New Haven capitalized with McGugan singling and advancing on a wild pitch. After an intentional walk to Frazzetta and another to Christian,
Aedan Forde (Massapequa Park, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) drew a walk, driving in the game-winning run for a thrilling 9-8 victory.

On Saturday, New Haven walked off Wagner again, securing a 9-8 win marked by a decisive two-run ninth inning. The Chargers recorded 12 hits and capitalized on six walks, while Wagner managed nine hits, including two home runs. Wagner initially took the lead in the first inning with a three-run homer, but New Haven quickly responded with
Jaylin Manson's (Newington, Conn./Newington) single and
Shaun Callahan's (Newington, Conn./Newington) two-run homer, narrowing the gap.
After a back-and-forth battle, New Haven pulled ahead in the third inning when
Aedan Forde's (Massapequa Park, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) single drove in two runs. Wagner tied it again in the fourth, but after four scoreless innings, the game was decided in the ninth. Wagner's Nicholas Mazzotta hit a solo home run, but New Haven responded with runs from Callahan and Ungania, clinching the 9-8 win.
Vincent Fusco (Fishkill, N.Y./John Jay East Fishkill) started the game for New Haven, allowing five earned runs over two innings, with
James Reilly (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) pitching two innings in relief. Jace Vanvalkneburg closed with a strong five-inning performance, earning his first win of the season.
However, on Sunday, New Haven fell to Wagner 14-5. The Chargers recorded nine hits, marking the third straight game with at least nine hits. New Haven opened the scoring with a strong second inning, featuring a two-RBI single by Callahan. Wagner responded with four runs in the third inning, taking the lead, and despite New Haven tying the game at 5-5 with a solo home run from
Jake Russo (Yaphank, N.Y./Bellport), Wagner regained control.
Wagner extended their lead with three runs in the sixth inning and added five more runs in the seventh, concluding the game with a 14-5 victory.
Max Hilsenroth (Centerport, N.Y./Harborfields) started for New Haven, pitching 3 innings with 4 earned runs, while multiple relievers saw action in a challenging outing.
