WEST HAVEN, Conn. — New Haven (3-17, 3-6) fell to Stony Brook (7-18, 4-8) in a high-scoring game, ending with a 15-12 defeat at home.
The Chargers amassed 14 hits, including two home runs, and staged a five-run rally in the eighth inning. However, a decisive 10-run sixth inning by Stony Brook proved critical.
Stony Brook established an early lead with three runs in the second inning. New Haven responded in the third when
Jake Russo (Yaphank, N.Y./Bellport) doubled to left center and scored on
Casey Cerruto's (Torrington, Conn./St. Paul Catholic) sacrifice fly, narrowing the gap to 3-1. Russo notably scored a season-high 4 runs and extended his streak to four consecutive games with at least 2 hits.
In the fifth inning,

Stony Brook then took control in the sixth, scoring 10 runs through a combination of hits, walks, and errors, extending their lead to 14-4.
New Haven showed resilience in the seventh and eighth innings.
Joseph Frazzetta's (Howard Beach, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) solo homer in the sixth contributed to his season-high 3 hits, and
Bobby Herzman's (Cheshire, Conn./HC Wilcox) RBI single in the seventh chipped away at the deficit. In the eighth,
Clark Beattie's (Glastonbury, Conn./Xavier) RBI single and additional runs from a defensive error closed the gap to 14-10. Beattie had a standout performance with a season-high 2 runs and 2 hits.
Stony Brook added a run in the ninth, but New Haven continued to fight.
Chase McNally (Methacton, Pa./Methacton), scoring 2 runs for the first time this season, and Russo crossed the plate on a double by Matthew McIntire, who recorded a season-high 2 RBI. Despite these efforts, the comeback fell short, with the final score at Stony Brook 15, New Haven 12.
