WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The NEC announced its weekly award winners on Tuesday afternoon, highlighting New Haven Baseball catcher
Jake Russo (Yaphank, N.Y./Bellport) as its Player of the Week.
The junior picked up eight hits in four games during the week, including three doubles and a solo home run. He also scored four runs during the weekend series with Wagner College, as the Blue & Gold picked up their first series win as a Division I program.
Russo leads New Haven in hitting (.417), OPS (1.117), hits (20), extra-base hits (8), total bases (30), slugging (.625), and on-base percentage (.492) through the first 19 games of the season.
Up next, New Haven will host Stony Brook University at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31, at Frank Vieira Field in West Haven, Conn.
