New Haven Men's Soccer Announces Schedule for 2026 Season

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – New Haven Men's Soccer head coach Tommy Mattera has announced his team's schedule for the 2026 season: the loaded slate features opening night at Northwestern on Thursday, Aug. 20.

The three-match road trip to begin the season continues on Monday, Aug. 24, as the Blue & Gold travel to Maryland for a match at the 2025 Regular Season BIG 10 champions. Following the match at Maryland, New Haven plays in its third state in as many matches, as it travels to Brown University in Rhode Island on Friday, Aug. 28.

New Haven opens up the home slate by welcoming Quinnipiac to the confines of Kathy Zolad Stadium on Wednesday, Sept. 2. The match against Quinnipiac is the only home non-conference match of the 2026 season.

After a brief trip home, the Blue & Gold will visit New Hampshire (Sept. 8) for the first time before traveling to Fairfield for a match against the Stags (Sept. 12). The Blue & Gold have had their way with Fairfield historically, having won 16 straight previous matches and 20 of 22 all time.

The Chargers will close out their four-match road swing with a trip to Chestnut Hill, Mass., as they visit Boston College on Tuesday, Sept. 15. The Battle of New Haven will be renewed on Tuesday, Sept. 22, as the Blue & Gold visit Yale, aiming to avenge the 2-1 loss from last season.

NEC play, and specifically, LIU, awaits the Blue & Gold on Sunday, Sept. 27, in West Haven. The Chargers and Sharks played to a scoreless draw last season in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Having already dealt with one NEC squad from New York, New Haven will prepare for another when it travels to Syracuse for a road match at Le Moyne. The Chargers are unbeaten in their last three matches against the Dolphins, dating back to 2021, and have scored at least two goals in every match against Le Moyne since 2019.

Villanova will host New Haven on Tuesday, Oct. 6, breaking up the NEC action for the Blue & Gold. New Haven and Villanova have met once prior, a 7-0 win for the Chargers, back on Sept. 17, 1978.

Getting back into NEC action, New Haven hosts Chicago State on Sunday, Oct. 11, before hitting the road for two straight matches at Mercyhurst (Oct. 18) and Howard (Oct. 25). Mattera's squad put a bow on their first season at the Division I level on Nov. 9, a 1-0 win in the season finale over Mercyhurst.

In the final week of the season, New Haven hosts FDU (Nov. 1), travels to in-state rival Central Connecticut (Nov. 5), and closes out the regular season at home against Stonehill (Nov. 8) before turning its attention to the NEC Playoffs.
