(12-29-09) GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - The University of New Haven men's basketball team dropped a non-conference game to Nyack College in the opening game of the Adelphi University Tournament Tuesday night. The Chargers fell 62-65 to the Warriors and drop to 0-9 on the season.
New Haven came out Tuesday night shooting the ball very well, and took an 8-point, 18-10, lead at the 11:09 mark after Robert Jamerson connected from the free throw line. The Chargers would maintain the lead for the rest of the first half, but the Warriors cut it to just one point at halftime, 30-29.
After hitting the first basket of the second half, Nyack quickly fell behind as UNH went on a 9-0 run behind six points from Cassius Chaney. The Chargers held a comfortable lead for a majority of the second half, including an 11-point, 60-49, lead at the 5:28 mark. New Haven then went cold, scoring only two more points in the final minutes. UNH was on the short end of a 16-2 run which helped seal the victory for the Warriors.
Chaney led the Chargers with 24 points and 14 rebounds. He also grabbed four steals and two assists. Freshman Sean Harris added 16 points and five rebounds.
The Chargers shot 46.4 percent from the floor and 23.1 percent from three-point range. They struggled from the foul line, however, going 7-for-14. UNH also out-rebounded the Warriors 42-32.
