(01-09-10) LOWELL, Mass. - The University of New Haven men's basketball team lost 48-67 Saturday afternoon at UMass Lowell. With the loss UNH falls to 1-12 overall and 1-8 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the River Hawks improve to 10-3 overall and 7-2 in conference play.
The Chargers and River Hawks played mostly even throughout the first half. UMass Lowell led by as many as four point, 6-2, at the 15:45 mark. New Haven held its largest lead, 18-13, at the 9:54 mark. Senior Cassius Chaney put in a layup with 47 seconds left in the first half to give UNH a three-point lead, but the River Hawks connected from downtown as time expired to even the score at the break.
The River Hawks opened an eight-point lead six minutes into the second half, but led by pair of three-pointers by senior Darryl Greene the Chargers tied the game at 44-44 just minutes later. UMass Lowell hit a jumper before Greene connected on his third three-pointer to give the Chargers a 47-46 lead with 8:34 remaining. The River Hawks then took over the game, scoring 21 of the final 22 points to seal the 19 point victory.
The River Hawks held a 24-14 advantage in points in the paint, while UNH held a 19-14 advantage in bench points. UMass Lowell held a 33-23 advantage in rebounds and out-shot the Chargers in each of the three shooting categories.
Greene and Chaney led the Chargers with 11 point each. Jeremy Williams added nine points, while Kingsley Aguh led the team with five rebounds.
