Greyhounds Take 83-69 Win Over UNH Women

(02-09-10) WORCESTER, Mass. - The University of New Haven women's basketball team fell 83-69 Tuesday night at Assumption College. The Chargers fall to 11-12 overall and 9-9 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Greyhounds improve to 12-11 overall and 9-9 in the NE-10.

Assumption scored the first basket at Laska Gym and never looked back. Over the first 12 minutes of the opening half, the Greyhounds managed to open a 10-point lead, 21-11. Four unanswered points from UNH cut the Greyhounds lead to six, 27-21, at the 3:40 mark. The Chargers could not cut further into the Assumption lead as the Greyhounds pulled ahead by 11 points, 37-26, at halftime.

Assumption opened the second half with another run which pushed its lead to 18 points, 49-31, just four minutes into the half. The Chargers recovered, however, cutting the lead to single digits with 9:34 left. Assumption would regain a sizable lead of 18 with 1:07 left in the game. A couple points from the Chargers down the stretch cut the Greyhounds' lead to 14 points.

Helin Marte led the Chargers with 21 points, while adding six assists and four rebounds. Dominique Stellmacher added 17 points and seven rebounds. 

The Chargers struggling shooting the ball Tuesday night. UNH connected on 24-of-65 shots for a 36.9 shooting percentage. Assumption made 54.5 percent of its shots.

New Haven travels to Syracuse, N.Y. to take on Le Moyne College on Saturday. Tip off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
