No. 3 Pioneers Too Much for No. 10 Women's Lacrosse

WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The University of New Haven women's lacrosse team, nationally ranked No. 10, fell 19-7 Wednesday afternoon to the nationally ranked No. 3 C.W. Post Pioneers at Kayo Field. With the loss, UNH falls to 2-4 overall, while the Pioneers remain perfect at 7-0.

After UNH scored the first goal Wednesday, C.W. Post went on a 5-0 run over the next 10 minutes to take a 5-1 lead in the 13th minute. Natalie Lieberman (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) converted on a free position shot at the 17:57 mark and brought the Chargers within three, 5-2. Each team scored a pair of goals and pushed the score to 7-4. The Pioneers would score three of the final four goals of the half and held a five-point, 10-5, lead at halftime.

C.W. Post was the first to score in the second half, while freshman Kristina Curry (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) netted her second of the game four minutes later to bring the score to 11-6. The Pioneers then sealed the victory with eight unanswered goals over the next 20 minutes. Laura McLean (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport Blue Point) then added one for UNH with six seconds left which brought the score to 19-7.

The Chargers trailed 16-11 in draw controls and struggled to gain possession off the draw. The Chargers also gave away 21 turnovers, including 13 in the second half.

Sarah Magnone (Yardley, Penn./Villa Joseph Marie) and Kristina Curry (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) led the Chargers with two goals each. Magnone added two assists, while Sarah LeGoff (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) added a goal and an assist.

New Haven travels to Saint Michael's College on Saturday, April 3 for a Northeast-10 Conference match in Colchester, Vt. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
