Women's Lacrosse Falls Late to Southern New Hampshire

WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The University of New Haven women's lacrosse team fell 10-9 Saturday afternoon to Southern New Hampshire University at Kayo Field. With the loss the Chargers fall to 5-5 overall and 4-2 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Penmen improve to 5-4 overall and 4-1 in the NE-10.

In the first 15 minutes of the first half the Chargers would take a 4-0 lead, behind two goals from Natalie Lieberman (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor). SNHU rebounded with three straight and brought the score to 4-3. Kristina Curry (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) and Sarah Magnone (Yardley, Penn./Villa Joseph Marie) scored a pair of free position goals to push the Chargers lead to 6-3 with 1:16 left in the first half. Just 30-seconds later the Penmen added their fourth of the game, while the Chargers brought the halftime score to 7-4 with a score in the final 10-seconds.

During the first 15 minutes of the second half the Penmen went on a 3-0 run and tied the game at 7-7 with 15:10 left in regulation. Aubrey Duncan (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) gave UNH the lead back when she scored the team's eighth goal with 14:25 left. After evening the score at 8-8 with 12:44 left in the half, SNHU took their first lead of the game off a goal in the game's 48th minute. Lieberman scored her fourth goal of the game and tied the score at 9-9 with 11:33 left in the second half. The Penmen scored the game-winning goal with 10:53 left when Sara Halbich scored her third goal of the game.

UNH goalkeeper Maureen Spellman (Trumbull, Conn./Saint Joseph) kept the Chargers in the game most of the day. The sophomore stopped 16 shots, while allowing 10 goals.

Offensively, UNH was led by Lieberman who finished with four goals. Magnone added two goals, while Laura McLean (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport Blue Point) scored one and handed out one assist.

The Chargers return to action on Wednesday, April 14 when they travel to Bentley University. Game time is Waltham, Mass. is set for 7 p.m.
