Late Goal Lifts Bentley Over Charger Women's Lacrosse

WALTHAM, Mass. - The University of New Haven women's lacrosse team fell 10-9 Wednesday night at Bentley University in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. With the loss the Chargers fall to 5-6 overall and 4-3 in the NE-10, while the Falcons improve to 6-6 overall and 3-3 in the conference.

After exchanging two goals each, the Falcons scored two straight to take a 4-2 lead. One UNH goal broke up another two Bentley goals as the Chargers fell behind 6-3 with 4:26 left in the first half. Natalie Lieberman (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) scored one more for New Haven with 3:03 left in the half to bring UNH within two, 6-4 at halftime.

Bentley scored one goal to open the second half. UNH then scored back-to-back goals and brought the score to 7-6. Bentley's ninth goal came before back-to-back UNH scores which tied the score at 9-9 with 11:11 left in the game.

The Falcons' game-winning goal came with 1:29 left. On the ensuing draw, the Chargers gained possession. The Chargers freshman, Lieberman, had the best opportunity to tie the game with 49-seconds on a shot which was saved by the Falcons.

Lieberman led the Chargers with three goals. Kristine Lambracht (White House Station, N.J./Hunterdon Central ) added two goals, while Sarah LeGoff (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) also registered multiple points with one goal and one assist. Goalkeeper Maureen Spellman (Trumbull, Conn./Saint Joseph) helped the Chargers with 11 saves, while the defense was led by LeGoff with four draw controls and a caused turnover.

The Chargers return to action at Merrimack College on Saturday, April 17. Game time is North Andover, Mass. is set for 1 p.m.
