NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. - The University of New Haven women's lacrosse team dropped a Northeast-10 Conference game 18-6 at Merrimack College Saturday afternoon. With the loss the Chargers fall to 5-7 overall and 4-4 overall
Merrimack opened a 5-0 lead before
Sarah Magnone (Yardley, Penn./Villa Joseph Marie) scored an unassisted goal at the 14-minute mark of the first half to cut the lead to 5-1. The Warriors then scored another three goals to open an 8-1 lead with four minutes left in the first half. Magnone added another to bring UNH back within six, 8-2. Both teams scored in the final three minutes of the first half which pushed the score to 9-3 at the break.
Three more Warrior goals opened the second half, while Merrimack took a commanding 12-3 lead with 24:32 left to play.
Kristine Lambracht (White House Station, N.J./Hunterdon Central ) scored the Chargers fourth goal with 21:36 left, while Merrimack then went on another 5-0 run to take a 17-5 lead. UNH added two in the final five minutes and Merrimack scored one to bring the final score to 18-6.
Magnone led the Chargers with two goals and one assist, while
Sarah LeGoff (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) added one goal and one assists.
Maureen Spellman (Trumbull, Conn./Saint Joseph) registers 15 saves in goal for the Chargers.
New Haven returns to action on Tuesday, April 20 when they host Adelphi University at Kayo Field. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
