WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The University of New Haven women's lacrosse team fell 24-7 to nationally ranked No. 1 Adelphi University Tuesday afternoon at Kayo Field. With the loss the Chargers fall to 5-8 overall and 4-5 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Panthers improve to 13-0 overall and 10-0 in the NE-10.
The Panthers scored first on Tuesday and rattled off three-straight in the opening six minutes. After an unassisted goal by
Sarah Magnone (Yardley, Penn./Villa Joseph Marie) with 22:31 left in the first half, Adelphi went on a 9-0 run over the next 10 minutes to take a commanding 12-1 lead with 13:27 left in the half. Sparked by a goal from
Laura McLean (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport Blue Point), UNH then went on a 3-0 run to cut the lead to 12-4. Adelphi added two more and #Sarah LeGoff netted one with 1:14 left to bring the halftime score to 14-5.
The Panthers gained possession off the opening draw of the second half and took a 15-5 lead just 28-seconds into the half. Adelphi scored another with 25-minutes left in the half, while
Kristina Curry (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) added one and brought the score to 16-6 with 21:07 left. The team's exchanged another two goals, before the Panthers went on a 7-0 run to close the game and seal their 13th win of the season.
Magnone led the Chargers with three goals, while McLean added one goal and one assist.
Kristine Lambracht (White House Station, N.J./Hunterdon Central ), LeGoff and Curry each added one goal.
Natalie Lieberman (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor), LeGoff and Magnone each recorded three draw controls, while Lieberman, Lambracht and
Maryellen Shea (Braintree, Mass./Braintree) each grabbed three ground balls.
The Chargers return to action on Saturday when they host Saint Anselm College in their final regular season home game of the 2010 season. Saturday is also senior day and the Athletics Spring Weekend for the Chargers at Kayo Field (
