WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The University of New Haven women's lacrosse team defeated the visiting Assumption College Greyhounds 18-5 at Kayo Field Tuesday afternoon. With the win the Chargers improve to 4-4 overall and 3-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Greyhounds fall to 1-5 overall and 0-4 in conference play.

Freshman Natalie Lieberman (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) opened scoring in Tuesday's game with a goal just under four minutes into the game. Assumption evened the score at 1-1 five minutes later, but the Chargers then went on a 4-0 run to improve their lead to 5-1. Lieberman scored her second of the game, while Aubrey Duncan (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford), Kristina Curry (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) and Sarah Magnone (Yardley, Penn./Villa Joseph Marie) each tallied goals during that stretch as well. Four free position goals, two by each team, over the ensuing eight minutes brought the score to 7-3. Magnone later gave the Chargers an 8-3 lead with 5:57 left in a half. UNH would hold on to the five-point lead for the remainder of the first half.

New Haven opened the second half with five-straight goals and took a commanding 13-3 lead with 21:54 remaining in the second half. Magnone scored her fourth of the game at the 14:45 mark, splitting up two Assumption scores. The Chargers then finished their fourth win of the season with four-straight to close the game.

Magnone led the Chargers with five goals. The sophomore also handed out two assists, scoring a game-high seven points. Teammates Lieberman and Laura McLean (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport Blue Point) both added four goals and one assist for five points. Freshman Kristina Curry (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) scored two goals, while Sarah LeGoff (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) and Duncan also registered multiple-point games.

Sophomore goalkeeper, and the reigning Northeast-10 Conference Goalkeeper of Year, Maureen Spellman (Trumbull, Conn./Saint Joseph) played exceptional between the posts for UNH. She allowed just five goals and recorded 15 saves and 11 ground balls.
