Box Score

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Four different members of the University of New Haven men’s soccer team recorded goals on Wednesday afternoon, as the Chargers defeated the College of Saint Rose by the final score of 4-0. With the win, New Haven knotted up its all-time mark against the Golden Knights at two apiece and improved to 2-2-1, 2-2 in the league.

The Chargers’ offense wasted very little time into this one, taking an early 1-0 lead in the 12th minute of play. Joseph D'Antonio collected a loose ball in front of the Golden Knights’ goal and calmly placed it into the back of the net. D’Antonio’s tally marked the first of his campaign and the second of his career.

Less than four minutes after that, Jean Carlos Rafael (Lima, Peru/Wilbur Cross) provided the second goal of the match on a free kick from 20 yards out. Rafael’s blast took a generous deflection off an opposing defender, beating the Golden Knights’ goalkeeper for a 2-0 advantage.

In the 22nd minute of action, Gui Dos Santos (Curitiba, Brazil/Bethel (Conn.)) capped off the scoring column in the first half with his third goal of the season. Edwin Carvajal (Norwalk, Conn./Wilton) assisted Dos Santos, leading the visiting Chargers to a 3-0 lead through the first 45 minutes.

After the break, both teams went into an offensive slump during the first 30 minutes of the half. However in the 77th minute, freshman Andres Nunez provided one last insurance goal for the visiting Chargers with a free kick that slipped right inside the post. His first career goal finalized a 4-0 victory at the Plumeri Sports Complex.

Goalkeepers Jonathan Creem (Naugatuck, Conn./Naugatuck ), #J.J. Comeau and (Curitiba, Brazil/Bethel (Conn.))Anastasios Petridis# combined to make one save in the shutout. Creem was credited with the win, improving to 2-2-1 between the posts for the Chargers.
