WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The University of New Haven men's soccer team defeated the College of Saint Rose 2-1 Tuesday afternoon in double overtime at Kayo Field. New Haven improved to 2-7-3 overall and 1-6-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Golden Knights fell to 1-12, 0-9 NE-10.

Tim Hines (Wallingford, Conn./Lyman Hall) connected on a header to the right side of the Golden Knights net in the 103rd minute at Kayo Field. Hines received the ball inside the 18-yard box from
Austin Coleman (North Haven, Conn./Hamden Hall Country Day ) who made the pass off a free kick.
The Chargers were first to score as well, in the 32rd minute. Sophomore
Gui Dos Santos (Curitiba, Brazil/Bethel (Conn.)) scored off another Coleman free kick to give the Chargers a 1-0 lead. UNH's opportunities kept coming as the Chargers out-shot Saint Rose 8-4 in the opening half. Before the horn sounded, Saint Rose's Stephen Richardson evened the score at 1-1 in the 42nd minute off an assist by Liam Barrett.
Throughout the second half, New Haven mounted numerous scoring opportunities, but could not put the ball away. In the 51st minute, 62nd minute and in the 82nd minute the Chargers had scoring opportunities. Saint Rose answered with inspired play in the closing minute as well. The Golden Knights had back-to-back shots in the 84th minute which nearly put them ahead, but #J.J. Comeau# tallied two big saves to keep the score tied at 1-1.
Both teams were held scoreless in the first overtime period, while Hines gave the Chargers the golden goal in the second overtime period.
Joseph D'Antonio led the Chargers with nine shots, while Dos Santos added four shots to his goal. Comeau made three saves in the win.
