WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The University of New Haven women's basketball team dropped its Northeast-10 Conference and home opener 64-50 to the College of Saint Rose at Charger Gymnasium. With the loss, the Chargers fell to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference. The Golden Knights improved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the NE-10.
New Haven scored the first basket Wednesday, but the Golden Knights answered with an 8-0 run to take an early six-point lead, 8-2. Saint Rose led by at least six points for the next seven minutes before the Chargers had a push later in the half to cut the lead down to just two at the 11:42 mark. UNH went on a 5-0 run over the course of two minutes to come close to evening the score. The Golden Knights once again quickly answered, going on their own 15-2 run to open a 32-17 lead with 3:13 left in the first half. Saint Rose would improve its lead to 17-points, 36-19, at halftime.
Saint Rose maintain its double digit lead for most of the first portion of the second half, but the Chargers rallied and cut the lead to just five points at the 11:46 mark. UNH went on a 10-0 during a three minute stretch and capped the run with a
Monica Schacker (Doylestown, Pa./Germantown Academy) three pointer. Saint Rose would again improve its lead to double figures and controlled a comfortable lead throughout the closing minutes Wednesday.
UNH shot a 29.9-percent from the floor and 12.5-percent from three-point range. The Chargers did, however, control the glass, grabbing 45 rebounds.
Ayana Duncanson (Elmont, N.Y./Francis Lewis) led the team with a double-double, 12 points and 12 rebounds, including eight offensive boards.
Bria Moore (West Haven, Conn./Hill Regional Career) added nine points and eight rebounds in the loss.
New Haven will return to action on Saturday, November 19 when they host Holy Family University at Charger Gymnasium in a non-conference matchup. Tip off is set for 1p.m. For complete game coverage, stay posted to
