BOX SCORE Box Score

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 11 nationally ranked University of New Haven women’s lacrosse team welcomed No. 2 nationally ranked Le Moyne College to West Haven, Conn. on Tuesday afternoon, as the Chargers hosted National Student Athlete Day at Kayo Field. The Dolphins defeated UNH by the final score of 15-3 in the NE-10 showdown.

With the loss, New Haven dropped to 8-6 on the season and 6-3 in conference competition. The Dolphins improved to 12-1, 8-1 in the league, with their lone loss coming against the No. 1 nationally ranked Adelphi Panthers.

Despite the long trip down to UNH, Le Moyne’s offense was wide awake at the beginning of the contest. The Dolphins recorded the game’s first eight goals in the opening 22 minutes of action. Brittany Brigandi tallied three of them for the Dolphins, leaving a large deficit for the hosting Chargers.

New Haven got on the scoreboard in the 23rd minute of action, when junior Sarah Magnone recorded her 35th goal of the season. However, the Dolphins answered with their ninth goal of the half, taking a commanding 9-1 lead into the locker rooms at the break.

The Chargers came out in the second half and scored two of the next four goals, attempting to cut into their deficit. Magnone registered the first tally and Alexi Gabbe added the second, but unfortunately the Chargers’ offense couldn’t find the back of the net for the remainder of the game.

Junior goalkeeper Maureen Spellman turned aside 13 shots for the home team, while Kelly Fucillo stopped three shots for LMC. Magnone also tallied two draw controls for the Chargers.

Le Moyne controlled virtually every statistical category in the game, recording more draw controls (15-5), shots (36-10), ground balls (17-4) and forced turnovers (16-9). Brigandi scored a game-high five goals for the Dolphins.

New Haven returns to action on Saturday, April 23 with its final regular season home game at Kayo Field. The Chargers will face off against Saint Michael’s College on Senior Day at 1 p.m. Live statistics will be available at www.NewHavenChargers.com.
