Men's Basketball Secures 65-62 Victory Over Ravens

BOX SCORE WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The University of New Haven men's basketball team defeated Franklin Pierce University 65-62 Wednesday night in a pivitol Northeast-10 Conference contest at Charger Gymnasium. With the win, the Chargers improved to 11-3 overall and 7-3 in the Northeast-10 Conference. Franklin Pierce fell to 10-4 on the season and 6-4 in conference play.

The Chargers turned the ball over after winning the opening tip-off Wednesday night. The Chargers struggled throughout the early portions of the game and found themselves in a 10-point deficit, 17-7, just over four minutes into the first half. The Ravens lead would hold throughout the entire half as the Chargers struggled with 12 turnovers and no free throws in the opening 20-minutes. A jumped with five seconds left, gave Franklin Pierce a 33-22 lead at the half. The Ravens used New Haven's turnovers, generating 17 points off turnovers in the first half.

With a rally in the first few minutes of the second half, Eric Anderson (Newark, N.J./Newark Tech) brought the Chargers within four points, 35-31, with a layup at the 16:28 mark. After a pair of Franklin Pierce free throws, Jeffery Adkins (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) put together five-unanswered points to bring the Chargers within one point. Samir McDaniels gave the Chargers the lead in the paint with a layup at the 12:48 mark. Franklin Pierce would tie the score at 38-38, but McDaniels would give the Chargers back the lead for good. Anderson then scored the game's next points, hitting a pair of free throws to give UNH a 42-38 lead. The team then exchanged poitns over the course of the final 10 minutes. With 1:48 left, a three-pointer by the Ravens brought the score within one point, but the Chargers connected on 7-of-8 free throws in the final minute to hold on to the big victory.

The Chargers defense limited the Ravens to 29 second-half points and 27.3-percent shooting in the second half.

Sophomore guard Jeffery Adkins (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) led the team with 18 points. Justin Exum (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian) added 13 points, while Jeremy Williams (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) chipped in 10 points. Eric Anderson (Newark, N.J./Newark Tech) performed well with nine points and a team-high seven rebounds.
