Ashley LeBlanc (Methuen, Mass./Methuen) enjoyed a career night with 25 points and 10 rebounds. The Chargers conclude the season with a 3-23 overall record and a 3-19 record in the Northeast-10 Conference. The Golden Knights improved to 17-9 overall and 14-8 in conference play.
The Golden Knights jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead over the first 7:30 Tuesday night. After UNH cut the lead ack to single digits, Saint Rose hit a three-pointer at the 10:03 mark to improve its lead back to 12 points. LaBlanc carried the Chargers on a 6-0 run to cut the Golden Knights lead to six points, 19-13, with 7:05 left in the first half. UNH stayed within single digits for a majority of the final minutes and trailed by nine pointes, 28-19, at halftime.
A LaBlanc layup in the first minute of the season half put the Chargers back within seven points. Over the next four minutes, Saint Rose went on a 15-6 and took its largest lead yet, 43-27. Five minutes later the Golden Knights took their largest lead of the game of 18 points, 53-35. In the final 10 minutes, the Chargers got as close as 12 points three different times. A 7-2 run by Saint Rose sealed the win in the final minutes.
The Golden Knights capitalized off 20 UNH turnovers and scored 27 points off turnovers, compared to 16 by the Chargers. Saint Rose also led 16-10 in second chance points, while points in the paint were even at 22-22. New Haven shot 37-percent from the floor, while the Golden Knights connected on 41-percent.
LeBlanc went 9-of-17 from the floor and 7-of-8 at the free throw line to lead UNH.
Anh-Dao Tran (Webster, Mass./Holy Name) added 14 points in the game.
The Chargers concluded the 2011-12 season on Tuesday night.
