BOX SCORE WORCESTER, Mass. - The University of New Haven women's basketball team dropped a Northeast-10 Conference game at Assumption College, 81-53, Wednesday night. Freshman
Bria Moore (West Haven, Conn./Hill Regional Career) scored a career-high 21 points and recorded her second double-double of the season with 11 rebounds. The Chargers fell to 2-20 overall and 2-16 in the Northeast-10 Conference. The Greyhounds improved to 16-6 overall and 13-5 in conference play.
In the opening three and a half minutes, New Haven controlled the the lead by exchanging baskets with the Greyhounds. With 16:02 left in the half, Assumption hit a three-pointer and took a one point lead. The teams exchanged the lead again before the Greyhounds took a 9-8 lead off a layup. Assumption went on a 10-2 run during the next 3:30 to take a seven-point lead, 17-10. Over the next 10 minutes, New Haven cut the lead down to two points with just under six minutes remaining after an
Anh-Dao Tran (Webster, Mass./Holy Name) layup. The Greyhounds regained a nine-point lead in the final minutes of the half, while the Chargers closed the gap to six points, 37-31, before the end of the first half.
Moore and
Audrey Cunningham (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) combined in the first 1:35 of the second half to cut the lead down to three points, 39-36. The Greyhounds then exploded with a 22-3 run over the next 10 minutes to take control with 8:38 left in the half. In the final two minutes, Assumption led by as many as 35 points before the Chargers fell by 32 points.
New Haven shot 28-percent from the floor, while the Greyhounds connected on 50-percent from the field. Assumption also controlled the board with a 47-38 advantage in the game.
Moore connected on 6-of-16 attempts and 9-of-10 free throw attempts for 21 points.
Aquillin Hayes (Harlem, N.Y./Wings Academy) added a team-high 13 rebounds in the game.
