No. 7 New Haven Earns 22-7 Win at AIC

BOX SCORE SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The University of New Haven women's lacrosse team, nationally ranked No. 7, defeated American International College 22-7 Tuesday night in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. The Chargers improved to 9-2 overall and 4-2 in the Northeast-10 Conference. The Yellow Jackets dropped to 1-9 overall and 1-7 in conference play.

The Yellow Jackets opened the game with two of the first three goals in the first four minutes. UNH rebounded with two unanswered goals and took a 3-2 lead, but AIC rallied with two more and regained the lead 4-3 with 20:54 left in the first half. The Chargers then came alive with in the final 20 minutes of the first half. UNH scored 11-straight goals and 12 of the final 13 goals of the half to take a 15-5 lead at halftime. Ashley Ferrandiz (West Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) scored back-to-back goals to put UNH ahead for good at the 20-minute mark. During the stretch, Kristina Curry (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) also scored two-straight and Natalie Lieberman (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) netted three goals. Lieberman also scored the final goal of the half with 13 seconds left.

The Yellow Jackets cut the lead to nine with the first goal of the second half, but the Chargers answered with six-straight goals. Curry sparked the run with a goal and the 28-minute mark. AIC scored its final goal with 8:38 left in regulation, while Daina Catanese (Franklin Square, N.Y./H. Frank Carey) scored her second goal of the season with 1:36 left in the second half.

The Chargers out-shot the Yellow Jackets 30-25 and led 15-10 in ground balls. New Haven also led 19-12 in draw controls. UNH was successful on 16-of-16 clear attempts and led 10-5 in saves. 

Natalie Lieberman (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) and Ashley Ferrandiz (West Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) led the team with six points off four goals and two assists. Kristina Curry (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) Sarah Magnone (Yardley, Penn./Villa Joseph Marie) and Alexis Gabbe (Malverne, N.Y./Malverne) each added five points. Curry scored four goals and Gabbe assisted on three goals. Marueen Spellman earned her ninth win of the season and totaled 10 saves.
