No. 7 Chargers Win 10th, Defeat Franklin Pierce, 23-2

BOX SCORE WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The nationally ranked No. 7 University of New Haven women's lacrosse team defeated Franklin Pierce University 23-2 Thursday afternoon at Kayo Field. With the win, the Chargers improved to 10-2 overall and 5-2 in the Northeast-10 Conference. The Ravens dropped to 5-6 overall and 3-4 in conference play.

Just over 20-seconds into the first half, Alexis Gabbe (Malverne, N.Y./Malverne) gave the Chargers a 1-0 lead with her 32nd goal of the season. The Ravens then rattled off two straight in the next eight minutes to take a 2-1 lead with 22-minutes left in the first half. The Chargers then took control of the game and held the Ravens scoreless for the remaining 52 minutes of the game. Ashley Ferrandiz (West Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) scored the Chargers' second goal to even the score at 2-2 with 16-minutes left in the first half, while Gabbe scored the eventual game-winning goal with 14:38 left in the first. New Haven improved its lead to 10 points with 1:09 left in the first half when Kassi Grant (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) netted her fifth goal of the season and gave UNH a 12-2 lead. Ferrandiz and Nicole McKee (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur) added goals in the final 35-seconds and the Chargers led 14-2 at halftime.

Ferrandiz took the draw a majority of the second half and kept the Chargers running on all cylinders. Kristina Curry (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) scored her 21st and 22nd goals of the season in the first five minutes of the second half and the Chargers took a 16-2 lead. The Chargers netted another seven goals in the final 23 minutes and sealed a 23-2 victory.

Ferrandiz enjoyed one of the top all-around performances of the season against the Ravens. She totaled eight points off three goals and five assists, while adding nine draw controls, four caused turnovers and three ground balls.

Gabbe contributed six points off four goals and two assists and Curry chipped in with four goals. McKee finished with three scored and Natalie Lieberman (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) totaled three points off two goals and one assist.

New Haven held a 36-8 advantage in shots, including an 11-2 lead in the second half.The Chargers grabbed 21-of-27 draw controls and went successful on 14-of-16 clear attempts.
