Host Molloy Takes 60-57 Decision in Final Minute

BOX SCORE ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – A three-pointer with just 2.7 seconds left proved to be the difference as the University of New Haven women’s basketball team dropped a 60-57 decision at Molloy on Wednesday in the Chargers’ final non-conference outing of the season.
 
New Haven, which was playing its first game in 25 days, falls to 6-4 and has its three-game winning streak snapped. Molloy improves to 4-6.
 
Nikita Reddy (Germantown, Md./Germantown) led all players with 17 points, including four of the Chargers’ seven three-pointers. New Haven shot 7-for-28 (25 percent) from distance as a part of a 21-for-69 (30.4 percent) shooting day overall in addition to a perfect 8-for-8 showing at the free throw line.
 
Briana Bradford (Waterbury, Conn./Holy Cross) scored 13 points, Bria Moore (West Haven, Conn./Hill Regional Career) added eight, Ashley LeBlanc (Methuen, Mass./Methuen) had six, Anh-Dao Tran (Webster, Mass./Holy Name) scored five, Ayana Duncanson (Elmont, N.Y./Francis Lewis) netted four and Lauren Hebert (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) and Rykema Stone (Bronx, N.Y./Wings Academy) added a bucket each to round out the New Haven scoring.
 
Duncanson and LeBlanc headed the effort on the board and shared the game high with nine rebounds apiece, while Tran filled out her statline with three rebounds, six assists and two steals.
 
Kelly Guerriero scored a team-high 14 points for the Lions, including the game-tying and game-winning three-pointers in the final minute of the game.
 
The Chargers struck first with a Bradford three-pointer and never trailed in the first half. New Haven went 15-for-33 (45.5 percent) from the field over the opening 20 minutes and led by as many as 16 points, entering the locker room with a 37-23 advantage.
 
Molloy began the second half on a 16-2 run, erasing the deficit and tying the score for the first time at 39-39 with 13:27 to play. The clubs traded the lead three more times, with the Chargers taking a 57-52 edge on a Bradford three-pointer and a pair of Tran free throws with 4:09 to go. However, New Haven would not score again, and Guerriero knocked down the game-tying and game-winning treys in the final minute of action to claim a 60-57 victory for the Lions.
 
In total, the second-half featured five ties and five lead changes.
 
The Chargers resume Northeast-10 action at home on Saturday, Jan. 5 against Pace. New Haven is m5-1 in conference play thus far.
