WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven men's basketball team scored the game's first 14 points and never looked back en route to a 73-42 win over Concordia on Saturday evening at Charger Gymnasium. Eric Anderson (Newark, N.J./Newark Tech) led all scorers with a career-high 26 points and 18 rebounds.

With the victory, New Haven evens its record at 1-1. Concordia drops to 0-5.

Anderson shot 8-for-14 from the field and 10-for-13 from the free throw line to tally his 26 points. The reigning Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Year added three blocked shots to go along with his second double-double of the season.

Jeffery Adkins (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) scored 18 points with four rebounds, four assists and three steals for the Chargers. Ashanti DePass (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) added eight points and four rebounds, and Cyrus James (Manchester, Conn./Howell Cheney Tech) and Jonny Ocasio (Queens, N.Y./Charlotte (Fla.) / Hillsborough Community College) each tallied seven points. Joshua Guddemi (Nottingham, England/Derby) had three points, and a field goal apiece from Jemal Mosley (Spring Valley, N.Y./Don Bosco Prep / Putnam Science Academy) and Kevin McLaughlin (Pittsfield, Mass./Taconic) rounded out the scoring.

Led by Anderson, the Chargers dominated down low with 44 points in the paint. Overall, New Haven shot 25-for-48 (52.1 percent) from the field, 2-for-13 (15.4 percent) from three-point range and 21-for-29 (72.4 percent) from the free throw line.

The Blue and Gold also held a 47-28 advantage on the boards. Each club had nine offensive rebounds, but the Chargers were the more opportunistic club with 11 second-chance points to Concordia's four. New Haven also capitalized with 15 points off turnovers and 16 fast-break points.

Kyle Kube was the only Clipper to reach double figures with 10 points. Marquis Campbell, Jalen Heath and Larry Moore each had nine off the bench for Concordia. The visitors shot 17-for-62 (27.4 percent) from the floor, 5-for-19 (26.3 percent) from distance and 3-for-8 (37.5 percent) from the stripe.

The Chargers two post players started the scoring, with Anderson and James each backing down their defenders for the first two buckets of the game. Anderson tallied nine points over the opening 14-0 run that spanned the first 5:44 of the contest, and Adkins added a three-point play during the stretch. The Clippers would cut the margin as low as four points, but New Haven registered the final seven of the half on a DePass three-pointer, a steal and layup by Adkins and an Anderson jumper to head into the locker room with a 33-22 advantage.

The Chargers maintained a 41-28 cushion into the second half, at which point New Haven ran off a 17-4 run that included a two Adkins coast-to-coast layups and a fast-break dunk by Anderson running the floor after a blocked shot to take a feed from Adkins. The home team continued to pull away, netting the game's last six points to finish off a 73-42 win.

Anderson scored 15 of his game-high 26 points in the second half and Adkins netted 11 after the intermission.
