Opening Tip

The University of New Haven women's basketball team brings an unblemished record to Springfield, Mass. for a Northeast-10 Southwest Division outing at American International.

Chargers' Last Time Out
New Haven improved to 4-0 for the first time since 1989 following a 76-50 victory at Northeast-10 divisional foe Pace on Saturday, Nov. 23.

Briana Bradford scored a game-high 21 points, shooting 5-for-6 from three-point range and 6-for-6 at the free throw line. Bradford has surpassed the 20-point mark in three of the Chargers' first four games this season.

Aquillin Hayes hauled in 16 rebounds in addition to seven points and a team-high four assists. She led the Chargers to 24 bench points, with Ana Obella adding six and Ashley LeBlanc netting five.

Rykema Stone scored 14 points and Elizabeth Cruso had 11 as the Chargers shot 25-for-61 (41 percent) from the floor, 8-for-12 (66.7 percent) from distance and 18-for-22 (81.8 percent) from the free throw line.

New Haven held a 42-32 advantage on the glass and won the turnover battle, 16-8.

A 4-2 advantage marked the second and final time that Pace would lead in the contest, as four Bria Moore points sparked an 11-3 run over the ensuing 3:22 that staked the Chargers to a 13-7 advantage. New Haven led by as many as 13 points in the first half and opened up a cushion as large as 26 points after the intermission.

Scouting American International
The Yellow Jackets from American International are 2-1 this season and dropped to 0-1 in the Northeast-10 on Wednesday with an 88-53 divisional loss at Adelphi. AIC has earned wins over Queens and a non-conference victory at Saint Michael's.

Krista Ferrentino leads the Yellow Jackets with 13.3 points per game, and Sydney Tepley adds 12.7 points per contest. Tepley and Kamika Mason are each pulling down a team-leading 6.3 rebounds per game.

In their most recent outing, American International was burned for nine three-pointers on 17 attempts by Adelphi. The Panthers shot 52.9 percent from distance and 53.2 percent from the field overall.

Last Season vs. American International
The Chargers swept the home-and-home series from American International by a pair of double-digit margins. New Haven took a 79-67 win on its home court on Dec. 4, 2012 and followed up with a 70-56 triumph on Feb. 20, 2013 in Springfield.

Briana Bradford averaged 16.0 points per game against the Yellow Jackets, and Lauren Hebert added 10.0 points per outing. Aquillin Hayes tallied a double-double in the road game of the series en route to 8.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per contest against AIC.

Sarah Noble netted 14.0 points per game and Krista Ferrentino averaged a double-double (12.5 ppg, 12.0 rpg) for the Yellow Jackets against New Haven. Alyssa Roach only appeared in the first meeting between the two squads and poured in 18 points.

All-Time Series
After last season's New Haven sweep, the all-time series is knotted at 13-13.

The Chargers are 6-4 against the Yellow Jackets since joining the Northeast-10 prior to the 2008-09 season. The home-and-home series has been a sweep in every season during that span.

New Haven Notes
The Chargers' 4-0 start is the first for the program since the 1989-90 team won its first six outings en route to the best start in program history. The Blue and Gold are 3-0 in the conference for first time since 2009-10. That team won its first four NE-10 encounters, the best start since New Haven joined the conference in 2008-09.

After matching her career high with 23 points at Dominican on Nov. 9, Briana Bradford established a new personal standard with 24 tallies in the Nov. 13 win over Saint Rose. Bradford also knocked down a career-best five three-pointers against the Golden Knights.

This season, Bradford has surpassed 20 points in three games en route to a team-high 19.8 points per contest. She is shooting 23-for-42 (54.8 percent) from the floor, 11-for-19 (57.9 percent) from three-point range and 22-for-25 (88 percent) from the free throw line.

Bradford's 2012-13 All-Rookie Team distinction marked the third straight season that a Charger earned a spot alongside the NE-10's top freshmen, following 2011-12 Rookie of the Year Bria Moore and 2010-11 All-Rookie selection Anh-Dao Tran.

Aquillin Hayes' double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds) against Le Moyne was her first of the season after notching a team-best seven double-doubles in 2012-13. Ashley LeBlanc also had a pair of double-doubles last winter. Hayes averages 9.3 points and a team-leading 10.3 rebounds per game in 21.5 minutes per contest.

Prior to the season-opening win at Dominican, New Haven last played an overtime game on Jan. 2, 2011 at crosstown and Northeast-10 rival Southern Connecticut State (L, 60-54) and last won in an extra session on Jan. 26, 2010 at Southern New Hampshire (W, 67-65). The last non-conference overtime game for the Blue and Gold also came at Dominican - an 84-79 victory on Jan. 8, 2009.

2012-13 Season
Aquillin Hayes averaged 10.3 points, 10.4 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game with seven double-doubles last season. She ranked third in the NE-10 and 24th in all of Division II on the glass and was also the conference's third-most prolific shot blocker. Hayes nearly registered a triple-double with 12 points, 21 rebounds and eight blocked shots in the Chargers' 95-52 win over Le Moyne on Feb. 16, 2013.

Hayes' 21 boards in the triumph over the Dolphins were the most by a Charger since Joy Jeter had 23 rebounds in a win over Keene State on Jan. 23, 1988. A New Haven Athletics Hall of Famer, three-time All-America honoree and the NCAA Tournament's Most Outstanding Player for the 1987 National Championship team, Jeter is New Haven's all-time leader in both career points (2,299) and career rebounds (1,486).

The Chargers were one of three Northeast-10 teams to average more than 70 points per game (third, 71.0 ppg) last winter. New Haven also led the NE-10 in fewest turnovers committed with 15.7 giveaways per contest.

The Chargers' 13 Northeast-10 wins and sixth-place regular season finish in 2012-13 both marked program bests since joining the NE-10. At 14-13 overall, New Haven also finished above .500 for the first time since posting a 21-9 mark en route to the East Coast Conference regular season crown in 2007-08.
