No. 13 Women's Lacrosse Drops NE-10 Opener at No. 10 Stonehill, 15-7

BOX SCORE EASTON, Mass. - The University of New Haven women's lacrosse team, nationally ranked No. 13, opened its 2013 Northeast-10 Conference schedule on Saturday with a 15-7 loss at Stonehill College. The Chargers were led by senior Natalie Lieberman (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) who netted three goals in the loss.

New Haven dropped to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play. The Skyhawks improved to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in the NE-10 with the win.

The Chargers were first on the scoreboard when Kristina Curry (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) scored her seventh goal of the season just under three minutes into the game. The teams exchanged goals with Lieberman giving the Chargers a 2-1 lead at the 24:15 mark. The Skyhawks then rattled off four straight goals to take a 5-2 lead with 10 minutes left in the first. Nicole McKee (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur) and Lieberman added a pair for UNH, closing the gap to 6-4 with 7:22 left in the first. Stonehill answered with its own run, netting three more before the break to take a 9-4 lead.

The Skyhawks scored another two straight to open the second half and take a commanding 11-4 lead just five minutes into the second stanza. The teams then exchanged goals three more times in the next 20 minutes as the game stayed in favor of Stonehill, 13-7. The Skyhawks added two more in the final minutes and took the eight-point victory.

New haven trailed in most statistical categories, including draw controls (16-8), shots (31-16) and shots on goal (26-15). New Haven held a lead in saves (11-9) and ground balls (20-19).

McKee scored for for the Chargers, while Kathryn Campbell (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) chipped in with two points as well (1g, 1a). Curry and Marissa Fisher (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) both added one point apiece.

New Haven returns to the field on Tuesday, March 26 when Southern Connecticut State travels to Kayo Field for another Northeast-10 Conference game. UNH also hosts Bentley on Saturday, March 30 at Kayo Field.
