No. 14 Women's Lacrosse Surges Past SCSU, 20-2

BOX SCORE WEST HAVEN, Conn. - Kristina Curry (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) scored six points and Kathryn Campbell (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) scored five points to lead the nationally ranked No. 14 University of New Haven women's lacrosse team to a 20-2 victory over the visiting Southern Connecticut State University Owls.

New Haven improved to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Owls dropped to 0-5 overall and 0-4 in conference play.

New Haven and Southern Connecticut State exchanged a pair of goals in the first 3:35 before the Chargers went on a 12-0 run to close the first half. Lieberman scored two of the first five goals for UNH, while Nicole McKee (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur), Curry and freshman Maya Szymanski (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) each scored a goal in the first 10 minutes of play. New Haven poured on another seven goals over the next ten minutes to take a 12-1 lead with 10:42 left in the first half. Marissa Fisher (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) scored her fifth goal of the season with 5:05 left and the Chargers would end the first period with a 13-1 lead.

New Haven controlled possession for a majority of the second half as well. New Haven opened a 15-1 advantage in the first 10 minutes and a 18-1 lead after 20 minutes. In the final third of the second half, New haven netted two more and Southern Connecticut State's Sarah Muise scored her second of the game. The Chargers final goal came from Devon Previte (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) with 2:15 left in the second half.

Three Chargers scored the first goal of their collegiate careers - Corinne Fisher (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial), Previte and Alicia Busco (Agawam, Mass./Agawam). Previte also posted a multiple point game with two goals.

As a team, New Haven led 31-9 in shots, 15-7 in ground balls and 15-9 in draw controls. The Chargers were successful on 10-of-11 clear attempts, while converting 1-of-3 eight-meter attempts.

Curry's six points came from four goals and two assists, while Campbell scored one and handed out four assists. The sophomore also tied for a team-high three draw controls and two ground balls. Natalie Lieberman (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) added four points (3g, 1a) and McKee scored three goals, grabbed three draw controls and two ground balls. Ashley Travis (LaFayette, N.Y./LaFayette ) and Courtney Ackland (Perth, Western Australia/Churchlands) also contributed on the offensive end with two points apiece for UNH. 

New Haven will return to action on Saturday, March 30 when it hosts No. 8 Bentley at Kayo Field. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
