Kristina Curry (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) scored four goals and handed out one assist to lead the nationally ranked No. 15 University of New Haven women's lacrosse team to a 20-5 victory at Franklin Pierce University Monday afternoon.
Kathryn Campbell (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) also netted four goals, while
Natalie Lieberman (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) scored three goals and handed out three assists in the win.
The Chargers moved to 7-6 overall and 5-3 in Northeast-10 Conference play with the victory. The Ravens dropped to 3-8 overall and 2-6 in NE-10 play with the loss.
Franklin Pierce scored the game's first goal just over one minute into play. Lieberman then sparked the UNH attack with an 11-0 run over the next 17 minutes. The senior scored all three of her goals during the scoring spree. Campbell scored two during the stretch, while sophomore
Brittany Ast (Glenwood, N.J./Vernon Township) scored her first of the season. At the 11:48 mark, Lieberman scored a man-up goal to put the Chargers ahead 11-1. The Ravens then split up four UNH goals in the final 10 minutes of the first half to bring the score at halftime to 15-3.
New Haven added three unanswered goals to open the second half and take an 18-3 lead with 18:53 left. Campbell began, while
Corinne Fisher (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) finished the run for the Chargers. Franklin Pierce then scored two straight to cut the score back to 18-5 at the 8:59 mark. Curry and
Nicole McKee (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur) finished scoring in the final minutes as the Chargers sealed a 15-point victory.
New Haven led in nearly every statistical category in the game. They held a 36-18 lead in shots, 19-14 lead in ground balls and 18-7 advantage in draw controls.
McKee finished with two points and a team-high six draw controls. Lieberman added five draw controls to her six points. Corinne Fisher scored three total goals and six others scored at least one point.
Between the posts, New Haven's
Marissa McDermott (Longmeadow, Mass./Wilbraham & Monson Academy) recorded her fifth win of the season. She played nearly 40 minutes and recorded six saves.
Alyssa Gianotti (Monkton, Md./Hereford) played the remainder of the game and tallied five saves.
The Chargers continue a three-game road stretch at Assumption College on Wednesday, April 17. Game time in Worcester, Mass. is set for 7 p.m. against the Greyhounds.
