No. 15 Women's Lacrosse Falls to No. 4 Adelphi, 14-9

BOX SCORE GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - Kristina Curry (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) scored four goals and handed out one assist, but the nationally ranked No. 15 University of New Haven women's lacrosse team dropped a Northeast-10 Conference game 14-9 to No. 4 Adelphi University Tuesday night in New York. The Chargers cut the lead to one with 8:47 left with a 4-1 run and the Panthers finished the game with a 4-0 run to seal the victory.

With the loss, New Haven fell to 5-6 overall and 3-3 in conference play. The Panthers improved to 11-0 overall and 7-0 in NE-10 action with the win.

Adelphi scored the game's first two goals, but the Chargers answered back with goals from Curry and Natalie Lieberman (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) during the first 18 minutes of the first half to keep the game ties at 2-2. With 10:47 left in the first half, Adelphi scored another two straight to take a 6-4 lead. Curry broke up another two Adelphi goals which concluded the first half. The Panthers scored four of the final five goals of the first half and led 6-3 at halftime.

The Chargers narrowed the Adelphi's lead to 7-5 when Maya Szymanksi scored the team's fifth goal at the 24:09 mark. The Panthers again scored two unanswered goals to take a commanding 9-6 lead later inthe half. Curry then began a 4-1 streak for New Haven, who cut the Adelphi lead to just one at 10-9. Curry and Lieberman each scored two goals during the stretch to help bring the Chargers back within striking distance. Adelphi closed the final eight minutes of the game with four more unanswered goals to take a five-point lead.

As a team, UNH trailed the Panthers 33-17 in shots and 15-12 in ground balls, but held a nattow 13-12 advantage in draw controls. 

Lieberman finished with four goals off four shots, while grabbing a team-high eight draw controls as well. Kathryn Campbell (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) chipped in with an assist, two ground balls and three draw controls. Marissa McDermott (Longmeadow, Mass./Wilbraham & Monson Academy) suffered the loss in goal for UNH, dropping her season record to 3-2. She stopped eight shots and allowed 14 goals.

New Haven hosts Merrimack College in its next game at Kayo Field on Saturday, April 13. Game is set for 1 p.m.
