Chargers Stay Unbeaten, Top Le Moyne on Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day

BOX SCORE

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Second-half goals from Monica Yanez (West Haven, Conn./West Haven) and Nicole Pacapelli (West Haven, Conn./West Haven / Stonehill College) propelled the University of New Haven women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over visiting Le Moyne in a Northeast-10 match on Kayo Field this afternoon. With the win, the Chargers remain unbeaten this season at 5-0-2 overall and 3-0-1 in NE-10 action.

The match was held on Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day, which featured over 30 University employees in attendance supporting the Chargers.

The goal for Yanez was her conference-leading eighth of the season. She also entered the day as one of seven student-athletes leading Division II in goals. The 61st-minute marker was assisted by a Kelly Blank (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor / Farmingdale State College) cross. The point is the first of Blank's New Haven career.

Yanez, who also leads the NE-10 with 19 total points this fall, became the fifth student-athlete to reach 60 career points for New Haven with her goal this afternoon. She also ranks fifth in career goals with 25 to her credit.

Pacapelli's goal was her second of the fall and the 12th of her three-year career. Her blast from the left side in the 80th minute was an insurance goal at the time, but proved to be the game-winner in a 2-1 decision following an 84th-minute tally by Le Moyne's Rachel Terry.

Natasha Purchla (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) made three saves – all in the second half – to preserve the one-goal margin. Kayla Werthmann also turned away three shots for the visiting Dolphins.

The Chargers held a 16-9 advantage in shots and attempted five corner kicks to Le Moyne's one.

This season marks the first time that New Haven has been undeafeated through seven matches. The Chargers are closing in on the overall program record of 11 consecutive matches without a loss attained by the 2005 club that put together a 10-0-1 streak in the midst of a run to the NCAA Second Round and a national ranking as high as No. 10.

The Chargers are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 28 under the lights on Kayo Field as Stonehill comes to town for a 7 p.m. contest. The match will be broadcast live in high definition and free of charge on NewHavenChargers.com.
