Last Time Out
New Haven erased a 17-point, second-half deficit but ultimately dropped a 73-69 decision on Saturday at Stonehill.
Â
Aquillin Hayes matched her career high with 27 points, including 23 in the second half. She shot 9-for-9 from the free throw line and also corralled nine rebounds in her second consecutive 20-point performance and eighth straight double-digit scoring effort.
Â
Bria Moore added 12 points with four rebounds – all from the offensive glass – and Ayana Duncanson netted eight points with a team-leading 11 boards and four steals. Rykema Stone chipped in with six points and eight rebounds.
Â
Collectively, New Haven shot 24-for-66 (36.4 percent) from the field, 1-for-8 (12.5 percent) from three-point range and 20-for-24 (83.3 percent) from the free throw line. The Chargers earned a 47-35 rebounding advantage, including 21 offensive rips that led to 19 second-chance points. Each team committed 13 turnovers.
Â
Stonehill connected on back-to-back three-pointers to open the second half, constructing a 17-point cushion at 50-33 with 18:28 to go. The lead held at 59-44 with 11:22 remaining, at which point New Haven ripped off a 10-0 run featuring six points from Hayes to close the gap to 59-54 with 6:41 left. The Skyhawks rebuild a seven-point edge before a Hayes three-point play and, after two Stonehill free throws, six consecutive points from the Chargers' junior knotted the score at 65-65 with 1:44 left.
Â
However, Stonehill would net the next six points and overcome four missed free throws in the game's final 20 seconds to hold off New Haven for a 73-69 win.

New Haven Notes
At 12-6, New Haven is off to its best start since the 2006-07 campaign. The Chargers began that season at 16-4 and finished 25-6 en route to their second consecutive NYCAC/ECC Championship and NCAA postseason trip.
Â
New Haven has limited nine opponents to fewer than 60 points this winter, including a season-low 43 tallies surrendered to Davis & Elkins on Nov. 29. Opponents have been held to a 36.3 field goal percentage and 31.1 three-point percentage while committing an average of 16.3 turnovers per game against the Blue and Gold's defensive pressure.
Â
The Chargers rank third in the Northeast-10 with 62.3 points allowed per game and are second in opponents' field goal percentage at 36.3 percent. Offensively, New Haven slots seventh in the conference with 69.3 points per game.
Â
The Chargers have knocked down eight or more three-pointers in four games this season, including 10 treys in the Nov. 13 win over Saint Rose.
Â
Aquillin Hayes has recorded six double-doubles this season en route to 13.7 points per contest and ranks third in the conference with 9.9 rebounds per game. Hayes, who posted a team-high seven double-doubles last winter, most recently matched her career high with 27 points on Saturday at Stonehill.
Â
Hayes shot 9-for-9 from the free throw line against the Skyhawks. The last perfect day from the stripe for a Charger with at least nine attempts was a 12-for-12 showing by Helin Marte at Southern New Hampshire on Jan. 26, 2010.
Â
Hayes has two career games with at least 20 rebounds, including the November overtime contest at No. 17 Rollins. She hauled in 21 boards to go along with 12 points and eight blocks in a win over Le Moyne last winter.
Â
This season, Briana Bradford has surpassed 20 points in four games en route to a team-high 14.7 points per contest. She scored a career-high 24 points with five three-pointers in the Nov. 13 win over Saint Rose. Bradford also drained five from beyond the arc en route to 21 points in the conference win at Pace on Nov. 23.
Â
Bria Moore has scored in double figures in 12 games this winter, including a streak of seven outings in a row from Nov. 26 to Dec. 22. She averages 11.2 points and 4.7 rebounds per contest and has provided a spark from long range, ranking fifth in the NE-10 at 41.3 percent (19-for-46) from distance. Moore scored a season-high 20 points against Adelphi on Dec. 7.
Â
With 92 career three-pointers to her credit, Audrey Cunningham has climbed into a tie for seventh on the Chargers' all-time list alongside her former teammate Dominique Stellmacher (2007-11). She is three three-pointers shy of Nikki Tierney Devaney (1990-94) for sixth place and with eight more triples would become the sixth player to knock down 100 attempts from distance for the Blue and Gold. Though she is on pace to graduate from the University of New Haven in May, Cunningham is in only her third season of eligibility after missing the entirety of the 2012-13 campaign due to injury.
Â
The six teams that have defeated the Chargers this winter currently boast a combined record of 81-22 (.786). Among those six teams, Bentley in the unbeaten No. 1 ranked team in the USA Today Sports Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll, while Rollins and Adelphi check in at No. 13 and No. 20, respectively and Stonehill slots among those unranked but receiving votes nationally.
Â
The Chargers' 4-0 start was the first for the program since the 1989-90 team won its first six outings. The Blue and Gold also began at 3-0 in the conference for the first time since 2009-10.
