New Haven Notes
As of the most recent NCAA report (through games played Jan. 5), New Haven ranks second in Division II with 59.4 points per game allowed. The Chargers also slot at fifth in the nation with an opponents' field goal percentage of 37.3 percent. The Blue and Gold lead the Northeast-10 in both categories in addition to an NE-10-leading +6.8 rebounding margin and a conference-low 10.4 turnovers committed per game.
Â
Eric Anderson averages 14.6 points and ranks second in the Northeast-10 with 12.2 rebounds per game. The reigning NE-10 Defensive Player of the Year, who also tops the conference with 2.7 blocked shots per contest, is seventh in the nation on the boards and 16th in rejections. Anderson has posted nine double-doubles this season.
Â
In the midst of his junior season, Anderson has climbed into fourth all-time at New Haven with 154 rejections. His 71 blocks in 2012-13 were the second-most in a single-season in Charger history, tied with Bill Jeffress' 71 blocks and two shy of Herb Watkins' 73 rejections - both from the 1986-87 campaign.
Â
Also from a career standpoint, Anderson has accumulated an even 800 total points for the Blue and Gold. Based upon his current scoring average, he could reach the 1,000-point plateau during the 2013-14 regular season.
Â
Justin Exum knocked down one three-pointer on Saturday at Dowling to improve his New Haven program record to 254 treys after recently surpassing the mark of 251 triples established by Mike Grove from 1989-93. Exum's .381 shooting percentage from distance is the sixth-best in program history.
Â
Exum also ranks 13th all-time in scoring at New Haven with 1,384 career points. The Chargers' leading scorer for the third straight season with 15.8 points per game, he is 243 tallies shy of the program's all-time top 10.
Â
After 13 points in Saturday's win at Dowling - his fifth consecutive double-digit scoring effort - Jeffery Adkins is averaging 14.8 points per game in his final season with the Blue and Gold. The senior point guard is shooting 51.8 percent (59-for-114) from the floor bolstered by a 57.6 percent success rate (49-for-85) from inside the arc.
Â
Adkins, who posted 12.9 points per contest last winter, currently sits at 990 career tallies. He has also moved into eighth all-time in assists at New Haven with 310 and slots 13th in career steals with 119.
Â
Cyrus James' first career double-double on Dec. 10 against Saint Rose consisted of 11 points and 12 rebounds. James, who also blocked three shots against the Golden Knights, shot 4-for-6 from the field and sank all three of his free throw attempts in the contest. He is New Haven's most-efficient scorer this season at 29-for-51 (56.9 percent) from the floor en route to 5.9 points to go along with 7.9 rebounds per game. He hauled in a career-high 13 boards at Southern Connecticut State on Dec. 22.
Â
In his first season as a member of the starting lineup for Head Coach Ted Hotaling, Ashanti DePass is netting 9.8 points per game. The senior shares the team lead with 22 made three-pointers while playing 31.1 minutes per outing.

During their six-game winning streak from Nov. 23 to Dec. 19, the Chargers outscored opponents by a +18.2 margin with three wins by more than 20 points. New Haven led by at least 20 points before halftime in five of the six victories with four wire-to-wire wins.
