BOX SCORE GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The University of New Haven men's basketball team shot 56.5% from the field in the second half and
Eric Anderson (Newark, N.J./Newark Tech) became the fourth player in program history to achieve 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds as the Chargers upended the Adelphi Panthers 71-56 on Saturday afternoon.
With its third straight win, New Haven is now 4-2 on the season, 2-2 in the Northeast-10 Conference while Adelphi drops to 3-5 overall, 1-4 in the NE-10.
Tommy Hunt (Smithfield, R.I./St. Andrew's) led the way for New Haven with 14 points.
Samir McDaniels (Roxbury, Mass./New Mission) added 13 and
Jemal Mosley (Spring Valley, N.Y./Don Bosco Prep / Putnam Science Academy) chipped in with 11.
An evenly matched first half saw the two teams battle with neither holding more than a four point lead. With the Panthers leading 20-17, the Chargers took the lead on back to back jumpers by Anderson, putting UNH up 21-20 and propelling the Blue and Gold to a 31-28 halftime lead. For the frame, New Haven outshot Adelphi 43.5% to 37.5%.
The second half saw more of the close game as the Chargers held a slim 39-37 at the 14:34 mark before embarking on a 15-4 run to go up 54-41 with 6:48 to go.
New Haven now returns home for a non-conference matchup against the Post Eagles on Tuesday, December 9 at 7:00 p.m.
