WEST HAVEN, Conn. - Eric Anderson (Newark, N.J./Newark Tech) became the 34th member of the University of New Haven Men's Basketball 1,000-Point Club as a part of a 19-point, 10-rebound performance in the Chargers' 75-52 win over visiting Pace on Saturday afternoon. The junior's double-double is his 15th of the season.

 
With the win, New Haven improves to 17-7 overall and 12-6 in the Northeast-10. The Setters from Pace drop to 6-17 on the season with a 4-13 conference mark.
 
Anderson shot 9-for-10 from the field, converting his first nine attempts from the floor, en route to the 1,000-plateau. He added four assists, two blocked shots and a steal in the win.
 
Jeffery Adkins (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) added 17 points, six rebounds, and six assists, and Justin Exum (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian) poured in 16 points sparked by a stretch of four consecutive three-pointers over a span of 3:37 in the second half.
 
With 1,004 career points, Anderson joins Exum (12th, 1,540 points) and Adkins (23rd, 1,193 points) as active Chargers with over 1,000 points. The most recent trio of active teammates in the 1,000-Point Club consisted of Brian Smith (1,936), Mike Grove (1,589) and Dwane Crawford (1,095) in the 1992-93 season.
 
As a unit, the Chargers shot 29-for-56 (51.8 percent) from the field – sinking at least half of their field goal attempts for the seventh time this season. New Haven supplemented its offense with a 7-for-21 (33.3 percent) showing from three-point range and a 10-for-12 (83.3 percent) day at the free throw line.
 
Rounding out the scoring for the starting five were Ashanti DePass (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) with eight points and four from Cyrus James (Manchester, Conn./Howell Cheney Tech). The bench tallied a total of 11 points, six from Jonny Ocasio (Queens, N.Y./Charlotte (Fla.) / Hillsborough Community College), three from Joshua Guddemi (Nottingham, England/Derby) and two by Jemal Mosley (Spring Valley, N.Y./Don Bosco Prep / Putnam Science Academy).
 
Led by Anderson's 10 boards, New Haven tied the Setters on the glass with 35 rebounds apiece. The Chargers committed four turnovers and forced six.
 
Defensively, New Haven set a season best with 16 field goals allowed while holding its 13th opponent to 60 points or fewer. Pace shot 16-for-56 (28.6 percent) from the floor, 2-for-13 (15.4 percent) from beyond the arc and 18-for-22 (81.8 percent) at the charity stripe. Jamaal James led the Setters with 13 points and a game-leading 14 rebounds.
 
The Chargers never trailed in the contest, starting the game on a 13-4 run as Pace converted just one of its first seven field goal attempts. New Haven built a lead as large as 17 points in the first half, withstanding 12 Setters' free throws as the visitors shrank the margin to 10 points at the intermission, 37-27.
 
Adkins netted 13 points in the first and Anderson added nine with six rebounds. The Chargers did not commit a turnover during the contest's first 20 minutes.
 
After Pace climbed to within eight points at 52-44 with 11:29 to go, Exum caught fire to put the game out of reach. The Chargers' all-time leader in made three-pointers sank four in a row in a span of 3:37 as New Haven scored the next 16 points of the day to claim a comfortable 68-44 advantage with 6:07 remaining. The lead grew as large as 24 points in an eventual 75-52 victory.
 
New Haven hosts American International in the final home game of the regular season on Wednesday, Feb. 19. The Chargers will recognize seniors Adkins, DePass, Exum and Krystian Foriest (Bronx, NY/Wings Academy ) and graduate student Kevin McLaughlin (Pittsfield, Mass./Taconic) prior the 7:30 p.m. contest.
