WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Led by a game-high 21 points from
Justin Exum (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian) and the 16th double-double of the season for
Eric Anderson (Newark, N.J./Newark Tech), the University of New Haven men's basketball team bested visiting American International, 68-57, on Senior Night at Charger Gymnasium.

With the win, the Chargers improved to 18-7 on the season and 13-6 in the Northeast-10 Conference. Â The Yellow Jackets dropped to 9-16 overall with a 6-12 conference tally.

Exum knocked down four three-pointers for the second consecutive game en route to his game-high 21 points. The program's all-time leader in made three-pointers (283) also shot 7-for-8 from the free throw line and distributed five assists. Anderson netted 16 points and led all players with 15 rebounds.

Jeffery Adkins (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) and
Ashanti DePass (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) also reached double figures with 15 and 11 points, respectively, as the Chargers shot 23-for-47 (48.9 percent) from the floor, 8-for-23 (34.8 percent) from three-point range and 14-for-19 (73.7 percent) from the free throw line.
Jemal Mosley (Spring Valley, N.Y./Don Bosco Prep / Putnam Science Academy) added three points, and
Cyrus James (Manchester, Conn./Howell Cheney Tech) capped the scoring with two points.

Led by Anderson's 15 boards, the Chargers owned a 32-30 advantage on the boards. Each team committed eight turnovers.

Marcus Porter scored 19 points to lead the Yellow Jackets, who shot 24-for-59 (40.7 percent) from the field, 6-for-20 (30 percent) from beyond the arc and 3-for-5 (60 percent) at the charity stripe.

Three-pointers from DePass and Exum on New Haven's first two possessions started the Chargers on the way to their eighth wire-to-wire win of the season. The Blue and Gold led by as 14 points in the opening frame and headed into the intermission with a 33-23 advantage.
Exum scored 13 points in the first half with three three-pointers. Anderson notched eight points and eight boards over the game's first 20 minutes, and DePass added five.

AIC surged to pull within two points at 44-42 with 13:15 to go in the contest, but the Chargers would not cede a field goal over the ensuing 6:58 while putting together a 12-1 run to rebuild a 56-43 advantage. Adkins scored nine points during the spurt, including the final seven. The lead grew as large as 16 points as the Chargers rolled to their third consecutive win with a 68-57 decision.

New Haven limited its opponent to 60 points or fewer for the 14th time this season and held its 22nd straight foe below its 2013-14 scoring average.

The Chargers conclude the regular season and look to wrap-up the No. 2 seed in the Northeast-10 Southwest Division on Tuesday, Feb. 25 with a win at Adelphi. New Haven, which has already earned a first round bye for the upcoming NE-10 Championship, can also claim the No. 2 seed via a Le Moyne loss in either of the Dolphins' final two regular season games.
