Opening Tip
The University of New Haven women's basketball team concludes the regular season with a pivotal East Region game against Adelphi. The Chargers enter the contest at No. 8 in the East, while Adelphi stands at No. 2 on the most recent regional ledger.

Last Time Out
New Haven clinched the No. 2 seed in the NE-10 Southwest Division with an 82-69 win over American International on Feb. 19.

Briana Bradford scored a game-high 21 points for the Chargers sparked by three three-pointers.

Aquillin Hayes posted 16 points and 15 rebounds, complementing her team-leading 11th double-double of the winter with four steals, three assists and two blocked shots.

As a unit, the Blue and Gold shot 28-for-60 (46.7 percent) from the field, 6-for-15 (40 percent) from three-point range and 20-for-27 (74.1 percent) from the free throw line.

Led by Hayes' game-high 15 boards, the Chargers owned a 41-35 advantage on the glass, with all 13 of New Haven's offensive rebounds coming in the second half. Duncanson collected seven rips and Moore corralled four. The Chargers committed 14 turnovers and forced 17 American International miscues.

New Haven's 82 points matched a season high established on Feb. 1 in an 82-70 win over Merrimack.

In addition to clinching the second seed in the NE-10 Southwest, the Chargers also reached their highest overall win total (17) since joining the conference beginning in 2008-09 and secured the team's best-ever NE-10 winning percentage.

New Haven Notes
The Chargers were ranked No. 8 in the first NCAA East Region Rankings released on Wednesday, Feb. 19. Since the rankings were announced, New Haven defeated No. 7 regionally-ranked American International. The next ledger will be released on Feb. 26, but will only include action through last Sunday, Feb. 23.

Aquillin Hayes has recorded 11 double-doubles en route to a team-high 14.4 points per contest and leads the Northeast-10 with 10.2 rebounds per game. Hayes, who posted a team-leading seven double-doubles last winter, netted a career-high 27 points at Saint Michael's on Jan. 14 and matched her personal best on Jan. 25 at Stonehill.

Hayes also has two career games with at least 20 rebounds, including the November overtime contest at No. 17 Rollins. She hauled in 21 boards to go along with 12 points and eight blocks in a win over Le Moyne last winter.

On Feb. 10, Hayes became the first Charger to earn Northeast-10 Player of the Week laurels since Helin Marte shared the honor with Bentley's Kim Brennan on Feb. 1, 2010. Nikki Carroll also garnered an NE-10 Player of the Week nod on Dec. 22, 2008 during New Haven's first season as a member of the conference.

New Haven has limited 11 opponents to fewer than 60 points this winter, including a season-low 43 tallies surrendered to Davis & Elkins on Nov. 29. Opponents have been held to a conference-low 35.8 field goal percentage as well as a 32.3 three-point percentage while committing an average of 16.0 turnovers per game against the Blue and Gold's defensive pressure.

The Chargers rank third in the Northeast-10 with 62.2 points allowed per game. Offensively, UNH slots sixth in the NE-10 with 69.2 points per game.

On four occasions, New Haven has overcome a double-digit deficit en route to victory. Most recently, UNH rallied from a 12-point gap to best American International on Feb. 19. The Chargers stormed past Davis & Elkins after trailing by 11 points on Nov. 29 and came back from 11 down at Saint Rose on Feb. 8. The Blue and Gold also erased a 10-point margin in the Dec. 22 win at Southern Connecticut State.

Bria Moore has scored in double figures in 15 games this winter, including a streak of seven outings in a row from Nov. 26 to Dec. 22. The 2011-12 Northeast-10 Rookie of the Year averages 11.1 points and 4.8 rebounds per contest this season.

This season, Briana Bradford has surpassed 20 points in five games en route to 13.0 points per contest. She scored a career-high 24 points with five three-pointers in the Nov. 13 win over Saint Rose. Bradford also drained five from beyond the arc en route to 21 points in the conference win at Pace on Nov. 23. She was a Northeast-10 All-Rookie Team selection last winter.

Audrey Cunningham is the sixth Charger to knock down 100 treys in her career. She currently stands in fifth-place all-time with 102 three-pointers. Cunningham is in the midst of her third active season with the Blue and Gold. Becky Snow is the program's all-time leader with 235 triples during her Hall of Fame tenure with the Chargers from 1996 to 2000.

The eight teams that have defeated the Chargers this winter currently boast a combined record of 141-60 (.701). Among those teams, Bentley is the unbeaten No. 1 ranked team in Division II at 25-0, while Rollins (22-5) checks in at No. 14. Additionally, Stonehill and Adelphi have both been nationally ranked during the 2013-14 campaign.

At 17-8 in her first campaign, Head Coach Ty Grace is the seventh first-year coach in program history to improve the team's win total from the previous season. Grace is the 16th head women's basketball coach all-time (including Deborah Chin, who had no predecessor when she founded the program in the 1975-76 season). The largest improvement by a first-year coach was Mimi Walters' 20-10 season in 2002-03 after taking the reins of an 11-15 squad.

The Chargers' 4-0 start was the first for the program since the 1989-90 team won its first six outings. The Blue and Gold also began at 3-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference for the first time since 2009-10.

In the Northeast-10
The Southwest's top seeds are clinched by Adelphi and New Haven, respectively. American International takes the No. 3 spot with a win over Southern Connecticut State. However, with a loss to SCSU and a Le Moyne win at Pace on Tuesday, the Dolphins would hold the tiebreaker due to the Yellow Jackets' hypothetical loss to the Owls. Since Le Moyne swept the season series from SCSU, the Owls are locked into the No. 5 seed even if they end up tied with the Dolphins at 9-11.

Bentley is the No. 1 seed in the Northeast and the overall No. 1 seed for the Championship by virtue of a head-to-head win over Adelphi, while Stonehill is locked into the division's No. 2 seed. Assumption is the No. 3 seed unless Franklin Pierce wins at Bentley on Tuesday night, in which case the Ravens overtake the Greyhounds. Saint Anselm is the confirmed fifth seed.

Up Next
New Haven will host a Northeast-10 Championship Quarterfinal on Sunday, March 2 against either Assumption or Franklin Pierce. Details will be announced on NewHavenChargers.com as they are finalized by the NE-10 conference office.
