Opening Tip
The University of New Haven women's basketball team looks for its fourth straight win over crosstown rival Southern Connecticut State and aims to keep its share of the Northeast-10 Southwest Division lead. Action from Charger Gymnasium tips off at 5:30 p.m.

Last Time Out
New Haven scored a season-high 82 points en route to a Northeast-10 victory over visiting Merrimack on Saturday.

Aquillin Hayes shared the game high with 16 points to lead four Chargers averaging in double figures in the 82-70 triumph.

Bria Moore netted 13 points, while Lauren Hebert and Audrey Cunningham each posted personal season highs with 12 and 11 points, respectively, off the bench.

New Haven converted better than 50 percent of its shots from the floor for the second time this season at 30-for-58 (51.7 percent). The 30 made field goals for the Blue and Gold marked a season best.

Ayana Duncanson neared a double-double with nine points to go along with her game-leading 11 rebounds. As a unit, the Chargers earned a 43-33 advantage on the boards.

The margin stayed within five points for the majority of the first half as the game's four ties and two lead changes all occurred within the opening 15:11 of action. It was a Bradford three-pointer that deadlocked the game at 29-29, as New Haven ended the period on a 19-5 stretch to take a 45-34 lead into the locker room.

The lead grew as large as 18 points in the second half at 70-52 on a pair of Hayes free throws with 6:22 left. Merrimack made a final push with an 11-0 spurt to climb within seven points with 3:45 to play, but the Chargers shot 8-for-9 from the free throw line down the stretch to close out an 82-70 victory.

New Haven Notes
Saturday's win over Merrimack moved the Chargers to 14-6 to match their win total from all of 2012-13. A 17-win season would be New Haven's best since joining the Northeast-10 prior to the 2008-09 campaign.

New Haven has limited 10 opponents to fewer than 60 points this winter, including a season-low 43 tallies surrendered to Davis & Elkins on Nov. 29. Opponents have been held to a conference-low 35.7 field goal percentage as well as a 31.7 three-point percentage while committing an average of 16.2 turnovers per game against the Blue and Gold's defensive pressure.

The Chargers rank third in the Northeast-10 with 62.0 points allowed per game. Offensively, New Haven slots sixth in the NE-10 with 69.6 points per game.

The Chargers have knocked down eight or more three-pointers in four games this season, including 10 treys in the Nov. 13 win over Saint Rose.

After netting 13 points on Saturday, Bria Moore has scored in double figures in 14 games this winter, including a streak of seven outings in a row from Nov. 26 to Dec. 22. She averages 12.0 points and 4.9 rebounds per contest and has provided a spark from long range, ranking seventh in the NE-10 at 40.7 percent (21-for-54) from distance.

Aquillin Hayes has recorded six double-doubles this season en route to 13.5 points per contest and ranks second in the Northeast-10 with 9.8 rebounds per game. Hayes, who posted a team-high seven double-doubles last winter, netted a career-high 27 points at Saint Michael's on Jan. 14 and matched her personal best on Jan. 25 at Stonehill.

Hayes shot 9-for-9 from the free throw line against the Skyhawks. The last perfect day from the stripe for a Charger with at least nine attempts was a 12-for-12 showing by Helin Marte at Southern New Hampshire on Jan. 26, 2010.

Hayes has two career games with at least 20 rebounds, including the November overtime contest at No. 17 Rollins. She hauled in 21 boards to go along with 12 points and eight blocks in a win over Le Moyne last winter.

This season, Briana Bradford has surpassed 20 points in four games en route to a team-high 14.2 points per contest. She scored a career-high 24 points with five three-pointers in the Nov. 13 win over Saint Rose. Bradford also drained five from beyond the arc en route to 21 points in the conference win at Pace on Nov. 23.

With 97 career three-pointers to her credit, Audrey Cunningham has climbed into sixth on the Chargers' all-time list. She is three shy of 100 career treys, which would also tie Lauren Hood (2005-09) for fifth place all-time. Cunningham is in the midst of her third active season with the Blue and Gold.

The six teams that have defeated the Chargers this winter currently boast a combined record of 91-27 (.771). Among those six teams, Bentley in the unbeaten No. 1 ranked team in the USA Today Sports Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll at 19-0, while Rollins (18-3) and Adelphi (15-5) check in at No. 13 and No. 25, respectively.

The Chargers' 4-0 start was the first for the program since the 1989-90 team won its first six outings. The Blue and Gold also began at 3-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference for the first time since 2009-10.

In the Northeast-10
New Haven and Adelphi are tied atop the NE-10 Southwest Division at 9-5 in conference play. The Panthers won the first meeting, 84-81, and will host the second on Feb. 25 to conclude the regular season. American International, Le Moyne and Southern Connecticut State currently share third place at 7-7.

In the NE-10 Northeast, Bentley stands alone at 15-0 to go along with a 20-0 overall record for Division II's top-ranked team. Stonehill owns a two-game cushion in second place at 10-4 against conference foes.
