Campbell's Record-Setting Performance Leads No. 4 UNH to Big Win

BOX SCORE SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Junior midfielder Kathryn Campbell (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) scored five goals and handed out six assists to lead the nationally ranked No. 4 University of New Haven women's lacrosse team to a 20-7 victory at American International College Tuesday afternoon. With the win, the Chargers clinch the No. 2 seed and a first round bye in the upcoming Northeast-10 Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship hosted at top-seed Adelphi on Friday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4.

New Haven improves to 14-1 overall and 10-1 in the NE-10 with the victory. With a pair of regular season games and the postseason still on the schedule, the Chargers have already matched the second-most wins in program history, tying the 2008 win total with today's win. The Yellow Jackets drop to 5-10 overall and 2-9 in conference play.

In addition to her 11 points, Campbell four caused turnovers, one ground ball and one draw control. Teammate Courtney Ackland (Perth, Western Australia/Churchlands) totaled six points off two goals and four assists, while Nicole McKee (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur) contributed four goals. Alicia Busco (Agawam, Mass./Agawam) added a three-point performance with a goal and two assists. Maya Szymanski (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) and Marissa Fisher (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) each scored two goals, while Ashley Travis (LaFayette, N.Y./LaFayette ) and Devon Previte (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) added a goal and an assist each. Lastly, Corinne Fisher (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) and Caitlin O'Brien both finished with one goal apiece.

New Haven held an 18-12 advantage in ground balls and 20-11 lead in turnovers. The Chargers went 22-for-23 on clear attempts, but trailed 12-9 in draw controls.

The Chargers opened with the game's first four goals to take a 4-0 lead just under seven minutes into the first half. Campbell netted the first pair from Ackland, while assisting on the next two to Marissa Fisher. AIC's Sydney DeArmond broke up another six New Haven goals. McKee, Szymanski, Ackland, Campbell, and two more McKee goals pushed the Charger' lead to 10-1 at the 10:19 mark. The Yellow Jackets then scored one more to cut the lead to 10-2, but UNH scored another three unanswered to take a 13-2 lead at halftime.

American International scored the first five goals of the second half to bring the score to 13-7 with 19:02 left in the half. The game's final seven goals all came from UNH who closed their 14th win of the season with a 7-0 run. Campbell assisted on a pair and scored two during the stretch. Busco scored her fourth of the season in unassisted fashion with two second left in the half to bring the final score to 20-17.

New Haven returns to action against No. 1 LIU Post on Thursday, April 24 in its regular season home finale. Game time against the Pioneers is set for 4 p.m. at Kayo Field.
