No. 2 Adelphi Hands First Loss to No. 4 Chargers, 13-5

BOX SCORE WEST HAVEN, Conn. – In a matchup of two of the four remaining unbeaten teams in Division II women's lacrosse, the No. 4 University of New Haven was defeated by visiting No. 2 Adelphi, 13-5, on Tuesday evening on Kayo Field.
 
Their first blemish of 2014 moves the Chargers to 10-1 overall and 6-1 in the Northeast-10, snapping a program-best 10-game winning streak. The Panthers improve to 12-0 with a 7-0 conference mark.
 
Nicole McKee (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur) netted a hat trick for New Haven, improving her team-leading total to 33 goals this spring. Kathryn Campbell (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) scored three total points with one goal and two assists, while Corinne Fisher (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) rounded out the scoring with a free-position goal.

Adelphi's Alexa Froccaro led all scorers with five goals. Devan Crimi added four goals and one assist.

The Chargers scored the game's first goal just over five minutes into the opening half. McKee found the back of the net after finding herself in open space in front of the net when she received a pass from Campbell. Adelphi answered with two unanswered to take the lead at the 21:08 mark. McKee and Campbell connected for the second time in the game with 18:28 on the clock, evening the game at 2-2. The Panthers answered with three-straight to regain the lead. Adelphi's 5-2 lead with 13:16 left in the first half helped the Panthers to a 6-3 halftime advantage.

The Panthers opened a 9-3 lead with three more unanswered goals in the first five minutes of the second half. Fisher sunk a free position shot at the 24:09 mark and the Chargers narrowed the lead back to five. Adelphi continued to control possession in the final 15 minutes and scored four of the game's final five goals to secure an eight-goal victory.

One of the deciding factors in the game came in the cirlce where the Chargers trailed 13-7 in draw controls. Both teams successfully cleared the ball 11 times with UNH attempting 15 clears and Adelphi trying 13 clears. New Haven turned the ball over 15 times, while the Panthers gave it away eight times. Adelphi also held a commanding 43-11 advantage in shots, but the Chargers recorded 15 saves compared to five.

New Haven returns to action on Saturday, April 12 when it travels to Merrimack for another NE-10 matchup. Game time in North Andover, Mass. is set for 12 p.m.
