Grace Announces Five Newcomers to Women’s Basketball Program

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Head Coach Ty Grace '99 has announced the five student-athletes who will join the University of New Haven women's basketball team beginning in the fall of 2014. The incoming recruits include three true freshmen and two transfers with Division I experience.

"These five student-athletes will be immediate contributors to our program," said Grace of her first recruiting class at New Haven. "I look forward to incorporating them into our Charger family both on and off the court."

A three-time First Team All-Public Schools Athletic League honoree, Quana Smith topped 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds at Harry S. Truman High School in the Bronx, New York. She represented the PSAL at the 2013-14 NYC Mayor's Cup All-Star Game and was named one of the top 25 high school players in New York City. In her scholastic career, Smith posted single-game highs of 30 points and 25 rebounds. She is an Honor Roll student and intends to study the Management of Sports Industries at the University.

Khayla Trowell comes to New Haven from Elizabeth Seton Catholic High School in Bladensburg, Maryland. She averaged seven points and six rebounds per game for the Roadrunners en route to Honorable Mention All-Washington Catholic Athletic Conference status. Trowell was a McDonald's All-America nominee in 2014 and earned most valuable player laurels during her AAU career with the Maryland Lady Lakers.

Morgan Williams attended Jackson Memorial High School in Jackson, New Jersey, where she averaged five points and five rebounds per game as a senior. Williams intends to major in Forensic Science at New Haven.

India Dotson spent two seasons at Division I Monmouth University, including a redshirt year, before transferring to the University of New Haven. Dotson appeared in two games for the Hawks in 2013-14, scoring her first collegiate points in her debut against No. 1 Connecticut.

Dotson attended Frederick High School in Frederick, Maryland and was named to the All-Monocacy Valley Athletic League (MVAL) First Team as a junior after earning Honorable Mention status as a sophomore. She scored 18 points with eight rebounds in a win over Walkersville to help Frederick clinch the MVAL Piedmont crown – the Cadets' first conference title in more than a decade – as a part of a 20-6 campaign. Dotson graduated high school in just three years as an Honor Roll student and intends to major in Finance at New Haven.

Mount Vernon, New York native Sade King returns to the Northeast after two seasons at Division I Hampton University. King did not see game action as a redshirt freshman in 2012-13 before appearing in 15 contests for the Pirates last winter. She averaged 2.1 points per game, including five points in the NCAA Championship First Round against Michigan State. Hampton won the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in both of King's seasons on the Pirates' roster.

King netted over 1,000 points in her scholastic career at Mount Vernon High School, earning First Team All-State honors as a senior and helping the Knights to two section championships. She was a Dean's List student at Hampton and plans to study Graphic Design at New Haven.

These five incoming student-athletes will join a roster of eight returning Chargers from an 18-10 campaign last winter. New Haven earned the No. 2 seed in the Northeast-10 Southwest Division and reached the NCAA postseason for the first time since 2007.
