BOX SCORE GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The No. 4 nationally-ranked University of New Haven women's lacrosse team dropped a 14-4 decision to host and No. 1 Adelphi in the Northeast-10 Championship Game on Sunday afternoon.
Kathryn Campbell (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) and
Marissa Fisher (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) were named to the All-Championship Team.
With the loss, the Chargers fall to 16-3 on the season. The top-ranked Panthers remain unbeaten at 19-0.
Campbell scored two goals this afternoon, becoming the first student-athlete in New Haven program history to reach 100 points in a season.
Nicole Belanger (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) and
Maya Szymanski (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) also scored for the Chargers, while
Courtney Ackland (Perth, Western Australia/Churchlands) notched an assist.
The Northeast-10 Midfielder of the Year, Campbell totaled six goals and two assists in New Haven's two NE-10 Championship contests. Marissa Fisher's second-half hat trick put the Chargers' on top for good in yesterday's 15-14 semifinal win over Saint Anselm.
In a physical first half, Belanger started the scoring with a free-position goal at the 25:09 mark. However, Adelphi notched the next four goals to open up a 4-1 advantage. Campbell ended the streak with a goal assisted by Ackland with 16:11 remaining the period, but the Panthers nabbed the final two scores of the half to take a 6-2 lead into the intermission.
Adelphi got on the board first in the second half, but the Chargers answered with a free-position goal from Campbell to reach the century mark in points for the season. The clubs then traded goals, with Szymanski burying the tally for New Haven. However, the Blue and Gold would not score again as the Panthers accounted for the game's final six goals in a 14-4 tally.
The Chargers, slotted at No. 3 in every edition of the NCAA North Region Rankings this season, remain in contention for the program's second-ever trip to the NCAA postseason. The complete field will be announced tonight (Sunday, May 4) at 8 p.m. on NCAA.com. Visit NewHavenChargers.com and follow
