Opening Tip
The University of New Haven men's basketball continues its Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division slate Saturday against The College of Saint Rose. Tip-off is set for 1:30 p.m.

Last Time Out
Senior forward Eric Anderson (Newark, N.J./Newark Tech) scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, but the University of New Haven men's basketball team dropped a Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division contest 61-46 at Southern Connecticut State Wednesday night. The game marked Anderson's sixth 20-point, 10-rebound performance of the season.

Anderson added three assist, two blocks and one steal in the full 40 minutes of play. Jonny Ocasio (Queens, N.Y./Charlotte (Fla.) / Hillsborough Community College) was the only other Charger in double figures with 13 points and nine rebounds. Jemal Mosley (Spring Valley, N.Y./Don Bosco Prep / Putnam Science Academy) chipped in with nine points and three boards, while Tommy Hunt (Smithfield, R.I./St. Andrew's) rounded out scoring for UNH with four.

Tylon Smith led the Owls with 19 points and nine rebounds.

The Chargers shot 33.3 percent from the floor (16-48), 28.6 percent from downtown (6-21) and 57.1 percent (8-14) at the foul line. New Haven was out-rebounded by SCSU 40-34, while also coming out on the top end of a 14-8 turnover differential.

The Owls jumped out to an early lead at Moore Field House and held an eight-point lead, 19-11, midway through the first half. With back-to-back three-pointers, Southern Connecticut State took its largest lead of 14 points with 3:15 left in the opening half. The Chargers cut the lead back to single digits in the final minute, but three free throws as time expired in the half, gave the Owls a 33-23 lead at the half.

In the first 10 minutes of the second half, New Haven kept the score within 10, but 14-3 run for the Owls pushed their lead to 59-39 with 6:45 on the clock. The Chargers 7-2 run in the final six minutes narrowed the victory to 15 for SCSU.

Scouting Report
Saint Rose enters Saturday's contest with a 6-16 overall record and a 4-11 record in conference play. The Golden Knights currently stand fifth in the NE-10's Southwest Division and have two players averaging double figures; Chris Dorgler with 11.7 points and Jalaun Taylor putting up 10.3 points. Taylor also leads the team in rebounds per game with 6.0, followed by Dorgler with 5.6 boards per game. Jack Jones and Sam Eckstrom are also making an impact, averaging 9.2 and 9.1 points a night, respectively, while Eckstrom shooting 56.1% from the field coming off the bench.

All-Time Series
Saturday marks the 16th meeting between the two conference opponents. Saint Rose holds a 9-6 all-time advantage, after the Golden Knights took the most recent meeting earlier this season at home by a score of 72-70. Chargers' head coach Ted Hotaling is 3-6 in his career against Saint Rose.

Turning Up the D
The 39 points that New Haven allowed against Merrimack on Saturday, Jan. 31 were the fewest that the Blue and Gold have surrendered since Feb. 16, 2013 when it beat Le Moyne 73-38.

Freshman Impact
Freshman Tommy Hunt and Levy Gillespie have made significant contributions for New Haven in their first seasons with the program. Both are averaging more than 20 minutes a game and are scoring a combined 10.1 points per game. The pair of three-point sharpshooters are hitting on 32.7 percent from beyond the arc. The 6.1 points per game that Hunt nets is the most for the New Haven freshman since Eric Anderson  scored 9.3 per game in 2011-12. The last Charger to average double-figure scoring as a freshman was Justin Exum at 14.7 a game in 2010-11.

A First Time for Everything
Senior Jonny Ocasio performed well in his first career start against Southern New Hampshire, scoring 18 points on the strength of a 7-for-10 performance from the field that included a 3-for-4 effort from beyond the arc. Against Merrimack on Saturday, he did one better, recording his first career double-double behind 18 points and 10 rebounds. In his last 10 games, Ocasio has provided a solid scoring punch for New Haven, tallying 14.4 points per night.

Double Your Fun
With his 20-point, 10-rebound performance against Southern Connecticut, Eric Anderson recorded his 13th double-double of the season and the 53nd of his career. That total ranks him tied for third among active players in Division II.
