BOX SCORE PURCHASE, N.Y. –
Courtney Ackland (Perth, Western Australia/Churchlands) and
Maya Szymanski (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) scored five goals each as the nationally-ranked No. 6 University of New Haven women's lacrosse team topped the Pace University Setters 17-6 in a Northeast-10 Conference game on Tuesday afternoon on the campus of SUNY Purchase in Purchase, N.Y.
With the win, New Haven is now 8-1 with a 5-1 record in the NE-10. Pace falls to 3-6 with a 1-5 record in conference.
In addition to the efforts of Ackland and Szymanski,
Kathryn Campbell (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) netted four goals and added two assists.
Nicole Belanger (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) and
Corinne Fisher (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) tallied a goal and an assist each.
The Chargers scored the first two goals of the game as Ackland found the back of the net twice in the first nine minutes. After the Setters sliced the game to 2-1, Ackland struck again at the 15:45 mark. That score opened a barrage for New Haven, igniting a stretch of five goals in just 2:48 to take a 7-1 lead at the 12:57 mark.
From that point, the Chargers never held less than a six-goal cushion, extending the lead to as many as 11 when Campbell netted the final marker of the contest.
Marissa McDermott (Longmeadow, Mass./Wilbraham & Monson Academy) earned the win in goal, making six saves.
For the game, New Haven caused 18 turnovers and held a 26-17 advantage in ground balls.
The Chargers are back in action on Saturday when they travel to nationally ranked No. 7 Stonehill for a Northeast-10 Conference showdown. Game time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
