WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven baseball team delivered season-highs with 13 runs and 14 hits as the Chargers defeated the Bloomfield Bears 13-2 in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, New Haven is now 5-8. Bloomfield is 3-12.

·          Joe Caico (Hopedale, Mass./Worcester (MA)) pitched a career-high seven innings allowing one run and striking out eight as he improved his record to 1-1 on the season.
·          TJ Riccio (Port Jeff Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) had three hits including a triple and drove in three runs.
·           Eddie Tammaro (South Hempstead, N.Y./South Side) and Nick Perrelli (North Branford, Conn./North Branford) each had two hits.
·          Nick Russo (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) reached base three times and stole three bases.
·           Robert Petrillo (Branford, Conn./Branford) had three RBI.

How it Happened
·          Caico did not allow a hit through the first six innings and gave up just one baserunner during the span.
·          New Haven broke open a scoreless game with four runs in the fourth inning. Keying the frame was a two-run triple from Jack Zagaja (Merrick, N.Y./St. Dominic).
·          After scoring two more runs in the fourth, the Chargers plated four more runs in the fifth as a Dylon Grzenda (North Attleboro, Mass./North Attleboro) triple scored Tammaro. Three batters later, Petrillo singled home Grzenda and Russo, who was hit by a pitch earlier in the frame. Zagaja drove in the final run of the inning on a groundout.

Turning Point
The big blow in the game came early. With the Chargers leading 1-0, Zagaja rocketed a ball into the left-centerfield gap, scoring two runs and putting New Haven up 3-0. Caico took care of the rest during the best start to date of his collegiate career.By the Numbers·          Every member of the New Haven starting lineup had at least one hit.
·           It was a day of firsts as James Myers (Saint James, N.Y./Smithtown East) collected his first collegiate hit. Josh Walker (Otisville, N.Y./Minisink Valley) delivered the first RBI of his college career in his first at-bat since he was a senior in high school in 2013.
·         The Chargers racked up season-highs with 13 runs and 14 hits.
·          The Blue and Gold had three triples in the game. It was the first time the team has accomplished that feat since March 11, 2014 against Dowling.
