GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The No. 7 University of New Haven women's lacrosse team saw its NCAA Division II Championship run come to a close on Saturday, falling to the No 1. Adelphi University Panthers in the quarterfinal round. With the loss, the Chargers close out the 2017 season with a 15-5 record, picking up the programs first ever NCAA Championship victory defeating Mercy in the opening round.
New Haven's only offense on the day came from junior Jessica Mazliah (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) as she broke up the Panthers shutout bid with seven minutes remaining in the opening half curling around from behind the goal for the unassisted score.
Freshmen Gianna Guerra (Thiells, N.Y./North Rockland) and Erica Rinsky (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) split time between the pipes for the Blue and Gold with Guerra playing just shy of 21 minutes and making a pair of stops and Rinsky playing the final 39 minutes and registering five stops.
